This was more than an "off game".

You make the Avery Johnson for Coach of the Year argument better than I do. Well said. People who say they should have "easily" won 65+ games this year don't know what they are talking about.

nuggets and warriors look like they're gonna win 50+ games next season. possible for all 1-8 teams win 50+ games? only easy outs seem like the lakers and the jazz now :)

Let's not get too cocky, or gloat too much - don't invite bad karma.

They are not as talented as Phoenix at all. Nash, Barbosa, Diaw, Marion, Stoudemire. and others, jeez, it ridiculous, if they ever stopped to play defense they would be 2 time defending champs.

    PS --

The defense Nelson is putting on Dirk is one that JVG at least in part came up with. The Warriors are loaded with long athletic wings who are tall enough to at least put a hand in Dirk's face -- Jackson, Pietrus, Richardson, and Barnes. TMac did it to Dirk 2 years ago. The Warriors can do what we didn't though, because they have so many of them -- put one on Dirk, double team with another, and still have another guy out there shadowing Josh Howard or Jason Terry.

The Mavs have to win game 2, if only to convince themselves the Warriors don't own them.

Agreed... I know they're going to shoot better than they did tonight. But I also feel the Warriors are going to play a more effecient offensive game as well. Its the lesser of two faults... I figured if the Warriors weren't running and gunning (which they weren't), they'd lose... regardless of how Dallas played. Not only did they win, they won handidly... that's why I'm leery of saying if Dallas simply makes shots, they win. I know they're going to eventually make the adjustments to Barron Davis... and in the end, the Mavs are too deep... I just wouldn't be all that shocked if GS pulls off the unthinkable (at some point, 7 of 8 HAS to get into Dallas' head).

Exactly... I figured the Mavs resolve was so strong, that the team that looked hapless in the final 4 games last year would never be seen again. Not only have they regressed to that low-level, they're looking just as hapless as they did against the Rockets... the same team that had Sura, Weatherspoon, Bowen, and Barry playing meaningful playoff game minutes.

But if Jason Terry starts to show a pulse again (and look all-world like he did in 05), the Mavs will win 4 straight.

I agree. If the Mavs handled them during the season, it would be a diff story. The Warriors have own3d them all year.

I agree he should be COY, he did a great job in the regular season.

On a side note, you were right: the Warriors would be lucky to win one game...in Dallas, that is. ;)

Terry has not played as well. The Rockets actually did a good job on him this yr, as compared to 05.

I know. If we had done that in 05, there wouldn't have been a series.

And that's what Battier is for... at least that gives us two long wings.

Watch all the help D Battier plays around the basket on guys driving in, forcing guys to take harder shots with his 6'8'' fame... just remember, two years ago, that was David Wesley back there.

One time in the Western Conference Finals, the 40-42 Rockets beat the 40-42 Kings.

Just think Stackhouse or Howard will have Shane or Tmac guarding them instead of 6'1'' Wesley.

AJ is a great coach. He'll learn from this mistake and will figure things out for next time. I still don't know why he started George. Bench is important and that's what kept the Mavs so competitive all season long. There's got to be a way to contain their small lineup. I'm hoping Avery starts Diop at center and strays away from the half court game. And you cannot play Davis 1 on 1. That will not work.

I'm sure Mavs won't shoot 35% the rest of the series either, so I'm not quite worried yet.
