If we somehow could finagle Asomugha and Cromartie (I know, this will never happen), I think the whole city would go number three.

I was pretty skeptical of the early reports linking Asomugha here but I think it has legs now. Paleontonio is pretty dialed in on most things. I'd be thrilled to get them both but I'm with you on knowing that would never happen

If we did that I don't think we'd have the cap space to bring back Vonta Leach which would really hurt the running game. If we could somehow manage all three that would be incredible though.

People here, I believe, have indicated Phillips, who coached him in SD, isn't a huge Cromartie fan.

If not true, he makes a TON of sense, having been in Phillips' system. My guess is that, with the truncated offseason, they'll zero in on guys who Phillips has coached previously to help lessen the ramp-up.

I'll bet $10 to the tipjar right now that the Texans have zero interest in Cromartie. Bob may bend a little on character, but he's not going to blow out his back bending low enough to say yes to a Cromartie signing.

How can it have legs if the teams haven't even had a chance to talk to agents? I'm sure there will be interest from both parties, but unless we make a very competitive offer, it won't happen.

if there is a source from the team claiming interest and a source from the agent/player claiming interest...then it has legs. Just because the agents cant talk to the team doesnt mean information isnt being relayed in some form...by the press for example.

i don't think he would be automatically ruled out because of his character issues. He hasnt been that bad. But he would/could ruled out for not always playing to his potential and slacking. He had some bad years before going to the jets.

He's still a risky bet, to me, and i think the money could be used on someone else.

meh, I guess I just have a different meaning of the term "having legs". I think of it as in there are serious interest and negotiations between both parties - for example, Biedrins to Houston had legs because it was reported by reputable sources that we nearly had a trade with Golden State for him. But 90% of the other reported trade offers in the GARM usually don't have legs because they weren't even close to happening.

I think this is just the media weeding out the teams that won't pursue him or don't have the means, combined with the fact that we are desperate for secondary help placing him here as the best fit. I'm sure we will be interested, but it's too soon to build up any excitement.

very true. I'm not fooling myself and getting overly hyped about it and no one else should get too excited either.

Hell, i'd be more than happy with the #2 cb in the FA class and a decent safety.

I'd say if we split up the money for Aso and spent it on Ike Taylor/Joseph and Eric Weddle, that would be even better. But I can't say I won't be ecstatic for Nnamdi, no matter how much we spend. This really turned out to be a good offseason for DB's.

Nnamdi is using us to get more money out of the teams he really wants to go too. His agent probably let Sal know to put the Eagles and Steelers on notice to know that it will be about money.

this is probably the case. Houston always seems to be great leverage for players.

I'd actually rather do that too, i think. It won't break the bank and would fill 2 spots with significant upgrades and put as big a burden on the salary cap.

If they break the bank on Aso then texans will be stuck with a hole at the other safety and, more than likely, be stuck putting a bandage on a broken leg.

If Aso pulls an Orlando Pace or Leigh Bodden on us, I just don't think my poor little heart could handle it. :(

I have a feeling there are enough teams want DB's and after Aso has them bid against each other to get a huge contract, the team that just missed out will offer that contract to Taylor. It also seems like something Taylor would do since it has already been reported that he won't be giving Pittsburgh a discount to resign him.
