I'm sure he knows the definition, but that isn't an explanation for his question. My best explanation for their existence and quantity is the massive case of football blue-balls the city of Houston had, and still has.
seriously, the rep nazis *still* won't let me prop up a great post like this. "massive case of football blue-balls". epic. and so true.
because what fun is it to not have hope when it comes to something as trivial as sports? if i don't have hope, i'm not bothering. i've got more important things to do with my time at that point.
Texans should have pulled the trigger on a Johnson for Asomugha trade last year. Too little, too late. Bob McNair is a cheap b*stard, Phillips is an idiot and Kubiak should have been fired 2 years ago. I am starting to realize why I never gave damn about or knew about the existence of the Houston Oilers.
Because the odds of signing Asomugha would be a lot better without having one of the top 10 players in the league? If you had traded for Asomugha, his old contract would still apply and the clause that made him a free agent in Oakland would do the same thing here. The only difference is that the Texans wouldn't have one of the game's best players to recruit him and make it an even semi-attractive destination. By the way, I'd love to hear your in-depth analysis on what in Phillips' track record as a defensive coordinator makes him "an idiot".
Also, just a pet peeve, but Rotoworld isn't saying that the Texans will indeed pursue Asomugha. The NFL Network and Jason La Canfora are saying it. It really shouldn't be that hard to give credit to the actual source of the news.
You're right. My mistake. It was 13th as Donnymost pointed out. I could have sworn we had the best rushing defense in the league after week 3. We gave up 615 rushing yards in the first 3 games and 1096 yards from weeks 4-17. That's an average of 84 yards per game in a 13 game stretch.
I'd be blown away and thrilled if they signed Asomugha, of course - but I'm thinking more and more that maybe they shouldn't invest *that* much money in a player that can easily be marginalized by the opponent. And who's turning 30. Football is different because there are no guaranteed contracts - but you want to be careful paying a guy who's best years might have already happened. (Based strictly on his age not his performance. If he has 3-4 elite years left, never mind - sign him.) Joseph is 3 years younger and well-thought of; he'd be cheaper and perhaps a better use of resources. For instance - can they get Joseph and Taylor + Sensabaugh? Who gets dropped from that mix if you throw Asomugha onto your salary cap?
pay the penalties; sign 'em all. disclaimer: since I do not know the rules from the previous deal and no one knows the rules from the coming deal, of course I'm just kiddin'
I was hoping for Cromo. He knows Wade's system and will be the first playmaker in our secondary since Aaron Glenn. And maybe Landry or Weddle at the safety spot. Steve Smith (Giants) as our #2 receiver.
Sweet merciful crap this is a dumb post.....I honestly don't even know where to begin. The reason why we can even HAVE a discussion about somebody like Asomugha is BECAUSE we have an All-World player like Andre Johnson. Trading Andre Johnson would have solved exactly NOTHING, other than to give the city of Houston even more reason to jump off that ledge. Andre Johnson will go down as the greatest Texan to ever play, and makes every offensive possession easier for guys like Matt Schaub and Arian Foster. Bob McNair has NEVER been considered cheap....the problem is he doesn't know WHERE to spend his money properly. Signing guys like Ahman Green, and Eric Moulds will get you nowhere. He's not cheap, he's misguided. There is a difference. Wade Philips, by all accounts, was the best defensive coordinator on the market, and has a proven track record of taking defenses from the pits of the league to beyond respectability in a matter of one or two seasons. When his responsibility is limited, he's an asset to have, and his knowledge of the game is unmatched. Again, we can even DISCUSS getting guys like Jonathan Joseph, Eric Weddle, Gerald Sensabaugh, and Nnamdi BECAUSE he's the defensive coordinator of this team, and players know just how good he actually is. I'm not going to argue with you about Gary Kubiak, because I happen to agree with you there....but probably for different reasons. Two years ago though, the Texans were coming off their second 8-8 season, and things were looking incredibly optimistic for this team. They had just come off a season where they were ravaged by Hurricane Ike, and the players rallied big time in the second half of the season to give the city some hope. As far as the Oilers go, I don't even know what point you're trying to make. The Texans and the Oilers are about as opposite as you can get in terms of tradition, success, and fan base. The only thing both of these teams hold in common is the fact that they play/played in Houston. Sometimes it's just better to close the browser, and back away from the computer.....
Haha, yeah, sorry about that. I didn't realize how much I had actually typed until I hit Submit. Basically, the jist is it was a dumb post.
i must have overlooked that post. It's just amazing the crazy crap people will say to try and bash the texans, and in particular Bob. Trading AJ is/would be r****ded.
'Lets trade our franchise Wide-Reciever, best in the NFL, nicest guy, woops finnegans ass, beast of a man." LUS DO DAT L0L
On Mike and Mike they just named off a bunch of key FA's and Kevin Kolb to Sal Paleontonio, asked him to to predict what team they would go to, and he said Houston for Asomugha
