    I'm afraid they'll overpay.

Why do you care if they overpay someone or not? Is it your money?

It's about putting the best product on the field, if that means they reach the cap limit so be it.

Hmm. We were 6-10 with a BS win in week 17. Just a couple of more games!!

We upgraded our talent..that's the bottom-line. We got a 6'6" defensive end not named Mario Williams. We got 2 good players in the second round (Reid could end up being a big steal).

None of this could be accomplished without a pathetic secondary, countless injuries, and suspensions. I like the potential of our roster. The Texans easily have the most star power in Houston. Go be a fan of another team if you think that we're a lost cause.

Dunta was massively overpaid and would not have salvaged last year

So yes, they would look like geniuses if they do indeed get Scrabble. Not so much for drafting Jackson though...

There's no such thing as overpaying for the best player at his position.

Did Miami overpay for Lebron? Orlando for Dwight?

Whatever, it doesn't matter, since he's not coming here.

They have max player deals in the NBA so you can't overpay in that league. In the NFL you can.

If this team adds Asomugha to go with the revamped front 7, I think they are a top 5 defense in the NFL.

I would set up a smoke screen to get Awesomegha. While every other team is making their run at him, I would sign joseph jonathan and eric weddle.

    Starting defensive backfield:
    SS weddle
    FS Quin
    CB Allen
    CB Joseph

I will be content if they sign just asomugha though. =)

i need to see the revamped front 7 (including rookies) play first before i go there with you.

reminds me a little of the guys in the GARM telling me the Rockets are contenders because of the rookies they just drafted.

Today is Nnamdi Asomugha's 30th birthday. Let's hope Bob McNair gives him a really nice present (cha-ching) whenever the lockout is over.

It's a completely different situation. The Texans had a top 10 defense the season before last and top 5 from week 5-17.

I'm that guy nonetheless. The Rockets must sign a center. The Texans need to sign a corner and safety. Houston fans have endured a lot of pain the last few years. It's time for a change

Texans will call Asomuha's agent and let the phone ring one time then hang up then come to the media and say how hard they pursued him. Not getting my hopes up. Will believe it when I see it.

It's not different to the extent you're talking about rookies coming in and transforming the worst defense I've ever seen in my life into a top 5 defense in the league....particularly if they're not afforded much of a training camp.

And new coaches.... you always leave out the new coaches. They'll have a bigger impact than all the rookies combined.

We've never had a top ten defense. I don't know where you got that from - http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/htx/

They did perform well over the better part of 2009, but the season is 16 games long. You have to judge a defense on the entire season.

You are right. I think you have a higher view of their potential impact than I do.

    2009:

    13th in total yards allowed
    17th in total points allowed

The defense *did* get better later that year (particularly the run D), they were top 10 after week 7 and beyond, not top 5, and certainly not from week 5 and beyond.

But of course that overlooks the fact that was the weakest schedule the Texans had played in the Kubiak era (if not franchise history), including such vaunted offenses as the Oakland Raiders (31st), Buffalo Bills (30th), Cincinatti Bengals (24th), San Francisco 49ers (27th), Seattle Seahawks (21st), St. Louis Rams (29th), and New York Jets (20th).

And if you add in the Dolphins and Jaguars (17th and 18th, respectively), that means that 10 out of the 16 opponents the Texans faced that year had offenses ranked in the bottom half of the league.
