There is a 99% chance he is a Texan. I think both sides want the same thing. He would be huge while Cushing is out to put pressure on the QB. Lets chase that bum Romo back 40 yards so he can heave an interception.

So is it silly to offer him a contract now or are we assuming its already been done? Your posts are very conflicting in that regard.

Either way my point was, the Texans should IF they have not pulled out all the stops and said Aaron, when you're ready so are we, the contract is sitting and waiting for your approval. That's all.

This guy is majorly needed and we should show him that. He deserves it.

And now Mario Williams is consulting a specialist about a hip injury he suffered in training camp.

Ugh... if we're without Mario and Cushing for the beginning of the season, we might have to work our way out of a deep hole to make this a playoff season.

We need Schobel badly... to pick up the slack for a potentially hurt Mario, the suspended Cushing, and the inexperienced Barwin. He'd be a fantastic addition, but unfortunately it's looking like he'll be a neccessity rather than a luxury.

Aaron Schobel in no rush to sign

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 9, 2010 11:21 AM ET

Former Bills defensive end Aaron Schobel has been a free agent for five days, and it doesn't appear he's in a hurry to change his status.

Schobel said that the Houston Texans would be his top choice as a free agent and the interest is mutual, but Schobel probably isn't a big fan of training camp. (Insert Brett Favre joke here.) ESPN's Paul Kuharsky writes that "it could be a while" before Schobel decides where to sign.

Seahawks G.M. John Schneider publicly expressed interest in Schobel, although Schneider assumes Schobel is ticketed for Houston. A report in New England indicated the Patriots had strong interest in Schobel.

Mario Williams' recent hip injury may prove to be no big deal, but it's a reminder why Schobel may as well wait. As injuries pile up, Schobel's pricetag may rise as well.

this is THE make or break year for the Texans... absolutely no reason this guy isn't in uniform by the time training camp ends. regardless of who we already have or how much money we've already spent, the Texans need to make things happen.

^ Yeah, sounds like he is in no hurry to play through camp and preseason. And, he has nothing to lose as it will probably only drive his price up the longer he waits.

I don't think we have any choice in the matter but to wait him out.

Plus if I think that if we offer him simply $.01 more than the highest bidder, he'd choose us to be closer to his family. We have to just keep the lines of communication open and let him know we'll do what it takes to bring him into the fold.

The owner is 73 years old. He's got to be feeling a bit anxious by now.

Usually, I'd agree. But camp is really more for the young players and/or players not familiar with the system. Schobel is a vet and is already familiar with our system, so I don't blame him for not wanting to go through 2-a-days a year before he retires.

I predict he signs halfway through the preseason, plays a little during the last 2 preseason games and is good to go.

Of course, if we end up signing Brock, that may or may not change things.
