LanceZierlein Texans won't pay Schobel what his going rate is so any discussion of Schobel coming back would have to start with more $

I should clear that up, heh. 95% false that he is coming back. And based on what LZ said, don't think its happening.

LZ: The Texans are off by over $2 million & that isn't changing. If the Texans bust out the checkbook it could change, but doubt it

How long before chapman comes in and says they won't pay Schobel more because he's white and Ric is black.

I'm sorry but if money is what prevents the Texans from landing a proven Pro Bowl DE who actually wants to come here ...in an un-capped year ....that makes me question just how much this organization wants to win.

    Prove me wrong Texans ...please.

Uncapped year in name only. I expect the NFL will punish teams that go buck wild this year.

There shouldn't be any ramifications if it's only a one year deal. If you sign someone to a huge multi-year deal, that's what's going to come back to bite you in the ass.

Who gives a crap? Not to sound like a homer but I really think this team can make it to the superbowl. Why wouldnt McNair go all out this year and have a Texas showdown in Dallas.

    Would be hella sick.

it certainly helps to have a guy who can put up double-digit sack numbers

It will help, it definitely could solidify our playoff chances, but you don't give the guy a blank check for what would be a part-time role.

I actually think he's changed his tune. He'll come in and say he walked outside this morning, and his neighbor was shoveling in his garden.

Shovel....Schobel. They're so similar, this has to mean he's signing.

If it's a one year deal, what's the harm?

The NFL would forward some of his salary to 2011. While this is an uncapped year now, the NFL will retroactively make this a capped year by forwarding some salary to future seasons. The Texans could be Super Bowl Contenders in 2011. Save the cap space. If the Texans were the Indianapolis Colts and needed a defensive end, sure use some future space to win now.

I'd be inclined to agree if it weren't for the fact that a lot of teams seem to come out of nowhere and make superbowl runs these days. The parity is amazing. The Texans aren't chopped liver. If they're not acting like they can make the superbowl any given year from now on, they're in the wrong business.

i love the texans as much as anybody, and in my head they can almost do no wrong, but I agree if its 2 million thats keeping them from getting a guy who got 10 sacks on a limited bases, that would be kinda shameful. Him opposite of mario with antonio smith moving in with okoye (or maybe connor i dont know if thats possible) on passing downs would give us the best pass rush we have ever had, and its something we need with so many young players in the secondary

It is possible for the Texans to make a Super Bowl this season, but odds are the Texans can use 10 million dollars better next season. I'd rather the Texans use money wisely. Granted, I would love to see him on the field this season for the Texans and would definitely cheer if the Texans got him. I just don't see the Texans paying him a lot unless they can fit him under what they expect the "cap" to be. Dead money under a salary cap can kill a team for years when a one year rental only helps for a year.
