Schobel turns 33 in two weeks. Says he's tired of dieting to weigh in the 240s when he's playing and wants to eat and weigh 270.

Well, I guess we didn't really screw this up, per se, but this still sucks. We really could've used Schobel.

Is this the final say? I wonder if we can talk him into 1 more year? Is this some kind of ploy to skip training camp? Is there already a deal under the table to have him sign after the preseason? Or are we just being hopeful.

So he wants to be a fatty after being healthy, putting on muscle, and hitting people. Whatever.

After seeing the 1st team "D" on Sat, and Barwin's progress, I don't feel so bad about this although he would have been a BIG help.

i don't wanna draw too many conclusions from 2 series :)

i hate the preseason for that. too high with the highs and too low with the lows.

Oh yea, no doubt but still helps ease the pain of not getting Schobel a little bit at least. It was nice to see Mario destroy that o-lineman though.

Can't blame the guy for wanting to live a normal life.

After reading the article, I don't want him. He said he can't guarantee that he'd be willling to give 100%. Basically, he's not sure he actually WANTS to play anymore, so he's not going to. Better this than he signs and half-asses it.

can't agree more...I don't care what he did, if he won't have passion, then I don't want it. More Cushings, Pollards is what we want going forward...

I thought the 1st team offense and defense looked GREAT. Did I miss something?? Tate's injury sucks more for him than it does for the Texans.

    You're probably right.

I'm waiting with bated breath for Reeko's assessment of this. Clearly, the front office is to blame for this, right?

Does this make sense? I mean I get he's retired, but he's only 33 and I can appreciate him still being able to walk and walk away on his terms...

    maybe its just a ploy

Ugh, remind me to never again read through the comments on the chron.com sports page. It pisses me off how ignorant most of these people are.

    Thank goodness I joined CF.

33 is pretty damn old for an NFL lineman. Not that it's automatic retiring age, but 9 or 10 years is a long time to put your body through an NFL beating in the trenches.

Schobel would rather pig out than accept one last payday to be an NFL player. OK, I admire his honesty, but I think he'll regret his decision one day.

Agree, I used to get all worked up about some of those idiotic posters but eventually just stopped reading...it did wonders for my health.
