    yet another rotation thread?

as of now, my opinion hasn't changed.

    1. Alston
    2. Wells
    3. T-Mac
    4. Battier
    5. Yao

    6. 6th man is probably Snyder or coach's pet Juhow
    8. Head
    9. last rotation spot goes to either Hayes/Deke/Novak
    12. V-Span is limited to garbage minutes unless JLIII steals his garbage. ;)

I think the first half of the season will look like this

    5: Yao
    4: Shane
    3: Tmac
    2: Bonzi
    1: Rafer

    6: Snyder
    7: JHOW
    8: Head
    9: Hayes

    Novak, VSpan, Deke, JLIII

    As the season progresses/2nd half

    5: Yao
    4: Shane
    3:TMAC
    2: Bonzi
    1: Rafer

    6: Snyder
    7: VSPAN
    8: Hayes/Novak
    9: Head

    JHOW, JLIII, Deke

As a veteran, it is better to put Howard into Rox' lineup: 1. Alston, 2. T-Mac, 3. Battier, 4. Howard, 5. Yao. The 6th man should be Wells.

Another idea is to use Howard as a center. And the lineup would be: 1. Alston, 2. Wells, 3. T-Mac, 4. Battier, 5. Yao. The 6th man would be Snyder or Kill Bill. And the 9th man will be Hayes or Novak.

i don't see how Howard is any bit more worthy than Wells (an eight-year veteran). heck, Wells could probably do everything that Howard does but better even at PF.

but if JVG decides that the bench needs scoring and puts Wells at 6th man, i'd rather start Snyder instead of Howard. Snyder's a better defender and seems like he'd play better off of the starters anyway.

i cannot see Billy as a sixth man (or even seventh or eight), this season or even next season. if he proves me wrong, great. but i doubt it.

a second unit of Wells, Howard, Head, Novak and Hayes/Deke or any combination of those players alongside T-Mac or Yao doesn't sound too bad, but i'm not really concerned about second units. the starting lineup is much more crucial.

I think if Bonzi is not going to start, Snyder will be the starting sg. i dont think JHOW deserves the starting nod.

after JVG's comments about wanting a shooter at the 4 at all times, i'm much more confident that novak will be part of the 9 man rotation.

the big questions is now the backup 5. jho, hayes, deke?

I dont think they will have a real backup center. i dont see Deke getting much time. I think when Yao is out of the game, they will play smallball like they did in the last preseason game. I think they'll play with 3 forwards, w gaurds, no center. i think chuck hayes gives the team more valuable minutes that Deke would

It is going to depend on the matchups there. I'm not confident Novak is going to get that many minutes unless he improves to adequate defensively. Right now, I don't have any confidence that he is even as good as Juwan defensively. If he proves that he is as good as Juwan defensively, then to me there is no question that he should get minutes over Juwan and that would push Juwan even further out of the rotation.

There is no question in my mind that Hayes is going to get minutes and respond very postively with increased playing time. Which means by default that Juwan is at best the backup PF or the backup C and will likely have less minutes than Chuckie as well as the 4/5 starters, Batt/Yao.

The best shooting lineup we could put on the floor would be Head, McGrady, Battier, Yao, and Novak. Talk about scorching the nets off.

The sharpest contrast between this year and last year's team is going to be coach trying to figure out which offensive mismatch is the most effective and efficient as opposed to last year when he was just trying to find an offensive mismatch.

Deke is not going to be in the regular rotation. If fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he was in street clothes for part of the season. Deke is the DPD. That is the designated paint defender. He really isn't useful except against teams like Miami or San Antonio that constant are trying to pound the ball in the post. We will need him in the playoffs and Finals if we get there but we won't need him a whole lot during the season.

i can't agree more. my thoughts exactly.

i'm not sure that novak is any worse on defense than jho. in fact, i'm not sure it's possible to be worse on defense. jho hasn't stopped a guy from scoring in about a year. however, i'm sure that he will get PT.

i just hope they find a trade for him before the season starts.
