I admit it's a gamble but look what you're giving up. Ward ain't gonna play. He's just wasted dollars. And Wesley ain't no spring chicken either, plus the dude is only 6 foot. Yes, it's a risk, but $5 million or so for 3 years with only one or two guaranteed can't be too much worse than where we are at now. In a year, he could effectively be an expiring contract that could be peddled off. And if there's a chemistry issue, well just bench his Molly Poppins doo. Remember, what we are giving up to get him and the other pieces we have added. With the addition of Derek Anderson, I see less need for a player like Mike James. Or at the very least Moochie, Ward, and Vin are going to be useless to us this year. Remember Minny was willing to give the guy $21 million. If we give him $10 million with a front loaded deal that has only 2 guaranteed years, we can see what we could get out of him and then trade him away as an expiring deal next year, the same as if any of our expirings now. And besides that we will still have expirings to move at the trade deadline this year to make an upgrade. As far as PG, it would be nice to get a pure PG to add to this team. But I don't think they are out there. I think if there were a deal to be made for a pure PG that can pass and shoot it, it would have already been done. We'll have to see what falls out of the tree come the deadline. In the meantime, we might as well take a shot at Spree. What could it really hurt if you think about it?
Didn't we already sign Luther Head? that puts us over the limit at 16 players: 1. Vin Baker (he'll be inactive) 2. Jon Barry 3. Ryan Bowen 4. Luther Head 5. Juwan Howard 6. Mike James 7. Tracy McGrady 8. Dikembe Mutombo 9. Moochie Norris (he'll be inactive) 10. Bob Sura 11. Stromile Swift 12. Charlie Ward (he'll be inactive 13. David Wesley 14. Yao Ming 15. Derek Anderson 16. Luther Head doesn't look promising for: 17. Lonnie Baxter 18. Glover Not only do we not have enough room for those two guys, we have to shave our roster by one guy. ... and... DAMN, WE HAVE A GOOD TEAM!!!!
Drox, you have LH listed twice. So the new list would look like this: 1. Vin Baker (he'll be inactive) 2. Jon Barry 3. Ryan Bowen 4. Luther Head 5. Juwan Howard 6. Mike James 7. Tracy McGrady 8. Dikembe Mutombo 9. Moochie Norris (he'll be inactive) 10. Bob Sura 11. Stromile Swift 12. Charlie Ward (he'll be inactive 13. David Wesley 14. Yao Ming 15. Derek Anderson
Only reason i counted him was that he was on the roster, i had no idea what happened to him. Just posted what i read there. Someone already cleared up that he was gone.
Why would you put 3 players on the inactive list and only suit up 11 players for a game? I mean I know they suck, but there is no point in only suiting up 11 and putting 3 guys on the inactive list if all of them are healthy.
How good is DA at the point? Does he have experience there? Is he a Sura type PG? If yes to these questions then don't Wesley and James become redundant? Can we trade Bowen yet? What about Wesley/James + Bowen for DerMarr Johnson signed? A big swingman that backs up TMac or starts at '2'. Young, athletic, good 3-ptr, and (according to 82games.com) number six of all '2' guards in defense.
DA can play the point, Sura can play the point, but those may not be their best positions. James however is our most athletic and best shooting point--by far the best option to slow a super quick one going off on us. DW I would say is more redundent. But he still is a fine spot up shooter, solid defender and good role player. I doubt you can get a player who will be more valuable to us than Wesley by trading Wesley. Maybe if he looks real old/sluggish we trade him before the deadline and mail him his ring in June, but he may stick as well. As for Dermarr, if we were going after him we would have used our LLE we gave to DA. He would have been a reasonable choice--more upside but more risk than DA, but is out of the picture now. Denver isn't going to trade him to us for any reasonable some now that we have no leverage (could only offer the vet min). Further Bowen as a signed free agent I think can't be traded until December 15th.
Does anyone know if the minimum of 5-games inactive for a player that is on the inactive list rule still aplies under the new C.B.A.? Also, i think the roster we have now is the roster we will have until february
