Surprised they IR'd Savage. He would have maybe missed half the season, but doing this solidifies that he's not the future. If he were, they would have kept him on the active roster so that he could continue to practice once he was healed. Now he can't take a single rep until next off-season. That's going to dramatically hurt his growth. Needed all the practice that he could get.

They'll probably pickup some UDFA qb to run the scout squad now. I doubt any vet would come here to be a 3rd string QB, let alone the Texans paying much for a 3rd stringer.

James' cut was to be expected. Didn't bring enough at his position to warrant cutting someone ahead of him in depth. Good guy, I'm sure he'll get picked up.

I'm still expect some 53 man roster moves, I think a couple guys on still on the team just to be moved today or in the next couple of days.

Pretty sure OB has final say on who makes the team and who doesn't.

um...Bill O'brien decided to keep Martin....not Rick Smith. Geez.....some of you. You do realize Kubiak now O'brien had finally say in drafting and keeping players?

Leverage for a trade...Its really the only reason i can think of...

Perhaps for receiver needy team like the Browns...

Maybe it's the Hard Knocks factor, but I absolutely hate that they cut Charles James. I more than hate it actually.

He can play outside, slot, return kicks, return punts. He is fast and has decent hands. It's not Rick Smiths fault OBrien hasn't found anyone better.

Wasn't a Smith decision. He's 6th on the WR corp, and I doubt he's here week 1. There are a few guys on the roster I feel will be moved. Just waiting for trades/waivers to shake out.

PDS says still 2 moves left.

He did find better, but Martin still has value in the league. Good trade chip. There are 5 better receivers already, he isn't taking those spots. I doubt they carry 6 at all.

Let the waiver wire clear out and watch for future trades.

Mumphrey? Let's wait until he plays a regular season game.

I don't know how James didn't make the team.

Are they really carrying just 3 OLB with Clowney just returning from a major injury?

Yes Mumphery, Demps as a returner as well. Mumphery as a rookie has shown more mental depth and better ability at the slot role that Keshawn has since he's been here. Mumphery coming around as a return has been quite nice as well, The long PR he ran that was called back was the best return we've had in 2 years. Martin by no means is ahead of anyone on the WR depth chart, why else would have have finished a 4th preseason game as a 4h year vet.

They've been trying to replace him since O'brien arrived, they have, but cutting him is simply stupid when there are so many WR needy teams that are willing to at least give up a little something.

Like I've been preaching, They are shopping the waiver wire and looking for trades. It's going to be a process. Wouldn't put it out of the realm for it to take a few more days to finally get a set 53 man.

I think the tweet refers to the kickoff of his alma mater's football season.
