MadMax, when you posted "the first pick ever", did you mean David Carr? He WAS our First Pick ever. Ric, you sum up my sentiments exactly... leaving all "personal" stuff aside, and seeing it from a FAN's point of view: I can guaran-dang-tee you that Kubiak wouldn't have let Casserly get the joke of a cornerback Buchanan was, or to let Aaron Glenn and Coleman go (look how porous our SECONDARY is now)... or to drop the Orlando Pace pursuit.
i don't know which of my posts you're talking about. but, yeah..i get that david carr was the first pick ever.
Excuses are for losers. That's how it is in sports. Winning is the only goal. It takes talent- playmakers these days. 1. Casserly destroyed the talent base of this franchise. His drafts and free agent signings were terrible- period- historically proven- end of story. I don't fault Casserly for taking Carr over Peppers though because a guess at that point is all you get. 2. Pleeeeeeeeease don't assume NFL GM's or Coaches know what they are doing - have you seen the mess they make of teams and how few there are that consistently win year after year? 3. Kubiak had a good draft- drafts are won and lost at the later rounds- he did well. 4. Carr is not a playmaker and would do better on a very good team where he can rely on a very good defense and a very solid running game (Bears for example) Carr will never lead a team to the Super Bowl - never- that is why I don't want him. 5. It was a huge mistake to resign Carr (at least to the max extension) and pass on VY. The team had expansion team talent, just finished 2-14 and was in a total rebuilding program- that's why the entire coaching staff and GM are gone today- rebuilding. You rebuild around a key position and you get a chance at a VY type talent once every ______ fill in the blank. 6. The Texans choices at this point are to build up a dominant defense. Vastly improve the running game which would include some new linemen and a much better RB. And get Carr to keep improving his decision making and pocket presence. He has some flaws that are his own fault that lead to sacks, fumbles and interceptions. I have not seen him improve in these areas since day one. 7. Draft a QB in the later rounds that has a chance to develop. Kubiak did a good job on his first draft, Mario might become a good d-lineman but he never should have passed on VY. Kubiak just misread Carr. OK- they make mistakes. IF (BIG IF) Carr could gain the swagger and become a playmaker, with pocket presence, good reads, and leadership- WOW I would be shocked and that would really get us where we need to be so much faster. I have felt this way about Casserly, Carr, and the talent level for the last 3 yrs.
this is semi off topic. But since we are in an evaluation/rebuilding year shouldn't we have just cut DD and taken the cap hit this year?
I don't understand the question. All I'm saying is that there are 21 other positions in football besides QB.
i knew it would be rebuilding. but i thought the evaluation was supposed to come BEFORE you give a guy a 3 year extension.
You know the team really sucks when a thread on an injury to the back up QB reaches six pages long. As far as I'm concerned we can just start racking up the L's about now and hope we can get AP or a stud lineman or DB in the draft. Better yet if we get a top 5 pick maybe we can trade down and get some more talent in here.
I just think this is a building process. You start with the lines then move out. Look at the this team and they have the 2 bookends in Spencer and Winston, a re in williams and a cb in Robinson. They also got a mlb in ryans and a te in Daniels. A 7th rd suprise in Lundy doesnt hurt either. This next season when they go into the draft or free agency they need a corner(Clements) a cover safety(Mike Doss) or (Landry or Merriweather) and a d-lineman or lb. I think carr is the type of qb that has to have alll the other pieces around him, but i would like to see the texans either draft a guy in the mid rds or get a guy to develop.
