Care to actually use some examples that are relevant... like, I dunno, some FOOTBALL examples? If we were talking about the Rockets passing up on a hometown legend who single-handedly won the national championship, things would be different. In the NBA, one player CAN make a huge difference (albeit, he still needs a solid team around him). In the NFL, that has NEVER EVER EVER NEVER EVER NEVER EVER NEVER EVER happened... one player has never won anything by his absolute self, and especially not on a team with worse talent than an expansion one. Also, in the NFL, a player's career can end in just the blink of an eye... the average career of a first round pick/pro bowler is shorter than most career 12th men in the NBA end up having. I understand this is a Rockets bbs, and thus most people have their sports roots in the NBA, but I'm just sick and tired of every baseball, football, and even soccer analogy being tied to the history of the NBA from 1984 on...
So did Danny Ainge... and John Elway played baseball too. Hell, T-mac plays baseball... and would probably be pretty good if he put full effort towards it.
One similar example I would throw out there is taking Earl. He electrified Houston for years. VY will never have that chance and so far there aren't many texans doing it either, including your boy Carr. (I know this isn't exactly perfect and they never won the SB but you get my point)
And Earl was downright ABUSED by the coaching staff here, and he's definitely paid for it (had a really short career, and has serious trouble now). When I see guys like Earl walk now, I have no problem with the Robert Smith's or Tiki Barber's walking away from the game early.
You misunderstood my point: It's not that VY is destined to become a legendary player that angers so many here. It's the fact that the Texans PASSED on him that some folks here will never get over.
....but you didn't mention players from any other tier. You mentioned Jordan and Malone. Perhaps Jefferson may in the end be a better comparison. Or some other very-good-but-not-great player. If he ends up being nothing more than Michael Vick redux, then we *all* need to get over the Texans passing him up (of course no one knows yet).
Uhh, care to actually READ my post before responding with sarcasm? That wasn't an ANALOGY that attempted to compare football & basketball but an OBSERVATION about fan attitudes on my part. It had nothing to do with the lines of argument about whether or not VY is destined to become a football god or that VY has "It" while Carr is a meatball that abound on this BBS. Instead, I was referring to the inability of some people to ever accept the fact that the Texans had the opportunity to take Vince but that they passed him over. It is the very fact that they (Texans) had the audacity to pass on the the young Jedi Prince aka the "Chosen One" that infuriates them so much and some of those same people will never get over it. As the media anoints more and more praise upon the young Jedi Vince, it is a certainty that their anger and frustration will continue to grow. Now, I have seen this scenario of intense fan disappointment play out before in Portland and Dallas which is why I wrote the following: Well hopefully, this clears up any lingering misunderstanding on what I posted. Be sure to tune into for next week's episode when Sage Rosenfels makes a pact with the Devil to heal his hand, have himself annointed as the starting QB for the Texans where he leads them to a win in the Super Bowl. Acting the part of the Devil will be Mr. "Love Me Some Me" himself, Terrell Owens.
Good point but I feel compelled to point out that Earl was from Tyler while young Jedi Vince is a Houston homeboy.
does anyone really think carr could have pulled off what young did sunday? carr's potential is only really good, young broke an elway record.
It will never happen. A 4th quarter comback by Carr will be a rarity as he plays Kubiak's managed offensive style that is runcentric. Comebacks by VC will be the rage as he freewheels and plays draw it in the dirt football up there in Nashville..
Didn't Kubiak manage the offense part of the time Elway was QB? If so, is it reasonable to conclude that Kubiak would give Carr more room if he felt Carr could handle it?
bingo. welcome to my frustration. he doesn't think carr can handle it. in Nashville, the coaching staff, including Norm Chow, thinks VY CAN handle it. and he's a rookie. Carr is in his 5th season. "but if we just give him more time!!"
lol, this pretty much sums up my b****ing for the last week. I need to step away, maybe I'll be back for the Texans - Raiders thread, or we could just start copying and pasting these threads each week and change the title
