It IS LEGAL in NBA and NCAA. I have been coaching NJB and AAU basketball for a few years now, and we had this kind of discussion in almost every pre-season ref/coach conference. It has been denounced illegal because they don't want the kids get hurt due to accident, it's very hard for the young kids to control this. But it's always legal in adults game! The guy is a moron!
foo92 pwned us "I avoid posting on clutchfans.net (houston's message board) because of all the idiocy that goes around there."
i'm suprised more of you didnt know that when battier contests a shot he sticks his hand between the shooters arms and right in their face. he's done that since as long as i can remember. and i've noticed since chuck went from starter to bench player he's gone to doing that more than contesting the ball, or maybe its just my imagination
Rosen is a douche. He never disappoints in writing shіt-stain articles. Since kindergarden coaches would tell you to put a hand on your man's face when he goes up for a shot, and that's exactly what Shane does.
Oh, we all knew it. It's just that we've never had anybody try to tell us it's illegal before. Battier's defense got plenty of coverage on ABC today. They must have shown him sticking a hand in Kobe's face at least 10 times.
Rosen is a freaking A.H. buddy of Mr Phil, who can only lose if it's someone else's fault. Thank you Jackson apologist, you remind us all of the arrogance which art Philip.
Rosen's just wrong. This game was really eye-opening for me as to just how elite Shane is on defense. His lateral footwork and body control are awesome for a man his size. It's too bad Rosen is calling him out for the "face-guarding" or whatever, because that is one impressive skill - clean, effective, and extremely difficult. There just aren't too many players who have the timing, quickness, and coordination to thread their arm through a jump shooters arms without fouling. Shane is the man, he should really get some DPOY votes.
This just shows how few people REALLY watch a game, in the national media too. Battier has been doing this for years. I don't remember him doing it that much in Memphis but ever since he has been in Houston he has done this every chance he gets. I can't believe they did some slo-mo of it and people are all amazed or complaining about it. I have been impressed by how he gets his hand in there on virtually every attempt. If some Rockets fans haven't noticed it before, then try to watch the games a little closer and you will start to appreciate the intangibles each player brings. Chuck Hayes is amazing to watch as well if you look close enough.
honestly I thought the same thing, I was surprised it wasn't mentioned during the telecast. battier put his hand right in kobe's face, that's illegal according to the rules I believe
This is like every other thread on Lakersground right now. Lakers fans are such tools. In addition to being fans of a terrible team, they can't seem to read English, either. I just read the NBA Rules and flipped to page 41, section m, where "face (eye) guarding" is addressed. It says the following: m Eye guarding (placing a hand in front of the opponent's eyes when guarding from the rear) a player who does not have possession of the ball is illegal and an unsportsmanlike technical shall be assessed. Battier's defense was legal because: 1. He wasn't guarding from the rear and 2. At all times, Kobe had possession of the basketball anyway It's called "playing good defense." I know, right? How dare Shane Battier do such a thing!
Don't be a sore loser. Kobe himself didn't complain about it after the game, and he admitted Shane is a great defender.
that's right, bruce bowen stick his feet under people, while there's a lot of other players face guard, so if everyone else can do it Shane can too, last time I check, the Ref only call a foul if you TOUCH any part of the shooter's body, he's just a Lakers fan that can't take a lost, what a sore loser...
The only legit complaint against Battier yesterday was that he didn't take Kobe out for dinner and a movie before the game. Didn't even buy him any candy or flowers.

I thought about this for a while before posting it. Yes, I used to watch friends.....
