Mike Miller would sure be nice for a mid-2nd round pick that didn't require us giving up any assets to acquire.

That is a good call, though I think Chase is a little bit quicker and a better leaper, but yes....he has some of MM's qualities for sure.

I'm going to put you on the spot. :)

Right now, if we could swap Wafer (or someone with equivalent ability) for Budinger, should we do it?

Josh Howard type, is that his ceiling? Maybe a bit more shooting touch?

Sorry, I know, I wasn't referring to your post.

I don't think he'll be anywhere close to as good, but that's the type of handle he seems to have. Someone who can dribble around to get free for his own shot, but nothing too serious. Maybe Jimmy Jackson in his Dallas days with way less physicality? Dan Majerle before the back problems? Ced Ceballos? Rex Chapman with more height?

In any event, I was a bit excited at first but probably won't pay much attention to Chase now that Dakota has sealed his fate.

Thanks for all the updates as of late cheeze.

I really do hope CB works out for us, it'd be nice to have a guard not one dimensional and that can spread the court with Yao in the game and still pump fake and drive to the basket to finish strong. We have needed that for sometime now. To hoping Chase is it!

Exciting to hear what he says about Budinger (and even Conroy)

But what about our 'top draft pick'?

For the record, Jermaine Taylor is an 'elite' level athlete (Martell Webster isn't...) - 34 inch no step vert  (compare Budinger's 29.5) - shows he has explosiveness in that first step (he was first in his class on that score - if you want to think 'athlete' then Brandon Roy also scored 34.0)

And I also think Taylor's shooting is under-rated

    Last 3 college seasons:
    41%; 37%; 38%

    Compare Budinger:
    37%; 38%; 40%

At worst his % is 'similar' to Budingers - plus Taylor shot volume from downtown - 2.0/ 2.5/ and 3.0 3s per contest the last 3 years (compare Budinger 1.6/ 2.1/ 1.9).

Obviously Taylor is a chucker, but the scout likes what he sees scoring wise, and the guy obviously gets to the rack (FG% 47/ 46/ 48 the last 3 seasons) - I think we got a genuine 'scoring 2' in this guy. Great wingspan too - and IF he's a learner, then he's got all the tools to be a really good defender too.

And if they both suck, then hey, they were second round picks :D

No, way chase has much better ball handling and finishing skill around the basket which Novak completely lacked although he could shoot lights out. Too bad chase probably will be outmatched on D though every time he steps on the court.

Ooooh, that is tough.....I think Budinger has more upside than Wafer.....but Wafer is more proven in that he has done it in the NBA.

Since this is kind of a BUILDING year, then no, I would take Chase, but with a healthy Yao, I would have rather had Wafer.

And, in truth, it is not an either or, we could have kept both.

    :D

Webster is a shooter. He can rebound some, but he really doesn't use his length or athleticism.

Taylor is a scorer who can get to the rim and score inside and out. I don't see much correlation between the two at all.

I'm really excited with Taylor. I think he'll be a good one.

Do you people notice something here? Here we are talking about rookies and new comers, and not once has anybody mention Jermaine Taylor. For the first days of camp, the coaches have been raving about Chase, but the only thing he heard about Taylor has been him being dunked on by Trevor. Had the Pistons kept Chase, and we were stuck with only Taylor and the other guy, I think people in here would give Morey crap for passing up on Blair, Young, Meeks, and Summers to select Taylor. He's not even a good shooter.

Ironic that you post this DIRECTLY after someone has just commented on Taylor.

And even worse is that you say Taylor can't shoot?

Clearly he can put the ball in the hole from pretty well anywhere on the court - scroll up say 10 posts, and you'll see his 3pt college numbers were AT LEAST the equal of Budingers.

Taylor not a good shooter? OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOkay.

It's still early in camp, so I'm not discouraged by the seemingly lack of praise thrown Taylor's way. I think the Rockets know what they'll get from him, and are still trying to see how others like Chase, Conroy and Temple, etc. will fit in.
