Just bring back Ish Smith. Rondo level player without the attitude and baggage. Sad that I'm serious about preferring Ish Smith over Rajon Rondo. Damn..
Rondo going the way of Andrew Bynum...sad to see, but it happens... Rondo essentially destroyed any chance at a big salary. He has not proven anything since the big 3 broke apart. Rick Carlisle and Jason Kidd worked, and Jason Kidd has done more in this league than Rondo...
Dude cant shoot how can he be outstanding in our system? Our system requires you to hit open jump shots, it is the basic and ONLY requirement we have (see Jet). If you cant do that then you dont fit the system period.
I wouldn't want the Rockets to sign Rondo even if he was paying the Rockets 4 mil added directly to their cap space to play here.
It is the NBA dish. It is fair to say that the main discussion would be about the other 29 teams picking him up or not.
Ahhahahaha. "Ever evolving NBA game." Yes, because Moreyball has how many championships? ...right. This idea that every PG in the league must shoot 35-50% from deep is silly. This right here. Yes, because wanting a true point guard to, you know, run our offense (Rockets 28th in the league for turnovers) is such a terrible idea.
I was listening to a podcast on Nyloncalculus today (the premier nba statistical forum on the net) and the analysts posed one simple question: "Would you sign Rondo to a vet minimum contract if you had to play him at least 28 minutes a game?" The unanimous answer was "No, definitely not". Rondo is a dinosaur in the NBA. The only teams that will even consider him this summer are the stone age franchises in LA and NY. One has Fisher trying to implement the out dated triangle offense, and the other one has Scott "I don't really believe in the three point shot" running the teams. There is no place anymore, on a competitive NBA team, for a starting point guard that teams just do not bother to guard on offense. Just look at this screen shot. Does it look like the Rockets are even trying to guard Rondo? What exactly does that lead to? It is called 4 on 5 basketball. Rondo can do OK on a team featuring 3 HOF players. Without that sort of support he is worth the vet minimum, if that.
Guy's got all the screws loose, apparently, after watching last game. I wouldn't be surprised if he remained a free agent after the summer and beyond. Any team willing to sign this guy and poison their team is fine by me as long as it's not us.
I was watching some basketball over the past 10 years, and was impressed with Rondo's ability to control and run an offense, providing great assist numbers while limiting turnovers. Nerdstats are nice and all, but shouldn't be the sole basis for anyone's appreciation of any single player. No one has or will ever argue that Rondo was the lynchpin of that '08 Celtics team, but tearing down his contributions to their powerhouse over that 4-5 years is a little childish. Would it be nice if he could shoot (better)? Sure. Is it something that could be worked on like Josh Smith? Absolutely. A liability given how many guys can chuck up 3-pointers, covered or not, on this Rockets team? No.
The major problem is that teams no longer bother to guard Rondo. In this series the Rockets have just doubled Dirk, Parsons and Ellis off of Rondo with impunity. Do you really want Rondo on the Rockets only to watch his man sit in Harden's lap all game long? That is what the Rockets did to Dirk and Ellis. 4 on 5 offense is just not going to work in the NBA unless you have three HOF players on your roster. And Rondo is just the antithesis of Moreyball.
Moreyball requires all the starting wings to be able to hit the three ball. Rondo, since joining the Mavs has hit 30% from beyond the arc, a career high by far. Morey would not sign Rondo for the vet minimum. Rondo's only two chances to play next season are the Knicks and Lakers. Desperate desperate franchises. However, the Knicks play the triangle, definitely not a good fit and the Lakers have a promising very young PG on their roster. It would not surprise me if Rondo is out of the NBA next season. He is that bad.
Would rather find a way too nab a PG at 1.18 it's a great draft class available. The free agent money and exceptions have to be creative too keep JSmooth, Brewer locked up for a few years and Terry re-signed for a year. I don't know if Bev and Kostas are on the team next year. Rockets look a lot more of a running team when Bev sits. Obviously replacing his D is the hardest part. I'd guess Llull is brought over.
