That's kinda my point about him switching from Dem to Republican at the time Jim Crow was at it's end with the help of the Democratic Party. He also wasn't in favor of the Martin Luther King Holiday before becoming president and having to sign it into law. He is on record calling Martin Luther King a communist and other things as well. It is known that Regan cracked racist jokes among other whites about minorities and his policies back up that claim IMO.
That's just like me telling you that you shouldn't have an opinion on Thomas Jefferson of Theodore Roosevelt because you weren't alive. You have no point here!
Except that you weren't just having an opinion, you said "I was alive in the 80s dude" in response to someone else saying you didn't experience Reagan's presidency. You were using being alive as justification for your opinion, which is invalid if you were just born or very young.
So I guess if I was born in 78 my opinion would be possible be more acceptable for you then? Well sucks for you because I still have an opinion! Believe it or not I remember watching a lot of his speeches along with the one he gave in Berlin, I remember him beating Dukakis, I remember his meetings with Gorbachev, and I remember older people complaining about him in my community. I never forgot any of that stuff and when I got older I researched more. I truly underestimated how over rated he really was. I guess I shouldn't have an opinion on sleepy Floyd either since I was too young.
You missed my point. I'm saying it's fine if you have an opinion on anything, but don't try to justify it with being alive at the time if you were too young to know what the heck was going on. I was born in '83, and I remember squat about Reagan and Bush Sr., so I'm not going to say I know what I'm talking about simply because I was alive at the time. But, if you were into politics and watching the news a lot from age 3 to 11, I guess you could use being alive as a justification. Seems far-fetched to me, nonetheless.
Sounds to me the reason you feel the way do is because you weren't interested in politics at that times, so your speaking for your own experience. Which is why people make fools out of them selves when they predict what other people should know.
Yes, most kids ages 3 to 11 are very interested in politics such as yourself, so I am an atypical case, for sure. It is silly to assume that kids aren't politically active. Absolutely ridiculous. I have realized the folly of my ways.
That they're good people, as long as their assumption has a legitimate foundation? Oh wait, you mean the "*#% out of u and me"! OH YOU SLAY ME
Well I for one was born in '86, and you're damn right I got choked up when Ronny told Mr. Gorbachev to tear down this wall. I find it quite sad that you were probably too concerned with trucks and little league to care about socio political issues.
I didn't say you couldn't have opinions. Your opening post wasn't really a good one to call out Reagan. FB had a post in here that was good criticism. I'm too unaware to comment on much of Reagan's presidency. TSchmal already explained why I commented on this. I was born in 1986, and I'm not even going to comment on Clinton's presidency as if I know something because I was alive. You are certainly free to have a historical viewpoint of Reagan, or one based on the opinions of other people. That is certainly your choice.
and in related news the sky is blue. at least he doesnt have blood on his hands - when its all said and done willie has left a far more positive impact on the world than 'your hero' reagan. furthermore, willie nelson is a true texan and reagan is not - why name our highways after people who had nothing to do with texas?
Don't have time to play Elementary teacher with you, but if you feel like your old enough to have an opinion on Ronald Reagan I would be glad to read it. Anyway, His ‘legacy’, the Reagan Doctrine, for the vast majority of the world's citizens resulted in war, hunger, poverty, sickness, and human right violations, of arms races and the slashing of social spending and increasing inequalities.
