i don't agree with the OP's theory. the suggestion of letting him go 1vs5 and getting on a chucking streak with our second unit so that he can get his chucking out of his system is totally flawed. the problem with him hoisting up those shots out of the rhythm is that it prevents our second unit from getting into the flow of the game. the point of having the second unit is to maintain the lead or try to narrow the gap before the starters can get back into the game. if he ends up going 1 for 6 during that span, it would be disruptive to our offense and can have the effect of losing a lead or having the opponent full away into a bigger lead before our starters come back from a break. in theory, if ron can shoot a good % during his chucking streak, like going 4 for 6 and hitting a couple of 3's. then even if yao and scola and the starters come back in the game, it'll still be the ron ron show because the "ron is taking over time". this is not a solution to the problem. ron needs to be under control. i'm not sure why ron is playing so out of control. is this how he plays normally? or is he trying really hard for a contract? you kinda worry if this is how he plays normally because that's what you'll get if he sign him in the offseason. but you also worry if he is only playing for his contract because that show's you he cares more about money than winning.
This is the worst reasoning for benching him I have ever seen. So let Ron Artest come off the bench, chuck and take whatever shot he wants so he is tired by the 4th? So basically you are assuming that him being tired will make him not chuck up contested shots and play within the offense. Makes no sense at all.
Hmmm, I disagree with all of that. I never see him lose the ball when dribbling, and would go as far as to say he has a really excellent handle for his size. His double crossover gets him to the cup just about every game. He plays fantastic defense, and debating that is just pointless and just plain dumb(Almost ALL of Ron's ex-teammates say he is the best defender they have ever played with, Not to mention winning the player vote for most feared defender in the league). He played much better D on Roy last night than Battier. He has been shooting the ball fairly well in our last few losses, and has taken much better shots since the infamous Laker game(And absolutely killed the Spurs). On top of that, It is nice to have a star that plays hard consistently on both ends. He will be the best 3rd option in the league next year when we get that 23 million back..... Last 3 games he is shooting 46% from the field. 21-5-3-1.
Ron is very strong and when he wants to he can bulldoze people inside the paint but for some reason he choose to jack up 3s rather than go inside. He can easily average about 18-20 pts a game if he just go inside and bully people rather than jacking up contested 3s.
i think u might be asking too much. it's like asking your girlfriend to be hot and at the same time, low maintenance.
I think Ron gets effected by personal battles easily ad goes out to prove something individually....it is one of his must frustrating flaws to watch, but better than a tmac that doesn't play with aggression and defene with both hands on his hip
Ron is lazy on offense IMO thats why he jacks up bad 3 pts.......or does that make him selfish or stupid?
What is his 3pt % again? If he is hitting at a 40% clip, that in no way hurts the team... And part of the problem is our teams ability to want to defer in certain situations. What do you want him to do? I'd rather have Ron take a covered shot than just about anyone on the team except Yao. Just as long as it is in "those" situations. He has been getting better and better as evidence of his 46% shooting in the last 3..... Lazy on offense...LOL.
good point but shane battier is a much better team defender as ron is a better one on one defender. i honestly dont think ron uses up his energy doing both defense and offense..he is just a type of player that can get it done on both ends of the floor.
