Y'know, the more I think about it, the more I wonder if this means Conservatives/Republicans are willing to downplay their social policies to push forward their fiscal policies. If they do that, they could get independent votes in '12. And Ron Paul does have a sort of "Perovian" quality to him. If Palin had the humility to accept a VP nom again, I think it could get interesting.
ron paul and sarah palin would never be on a ticket together. the reasons are too many to list. and im also a little concerned that she is supporting rand paul in his senate bid and he not only accepted her support, but on an interview i heard said she would make a good president. imo, the republican fiscal policy is basically to spend like a madman when you are in office and when its a democrat in office pretend like they are fiscally conservative - its all rhetoric and nothing more. "deficits dont matter" - dick cheney
pauls social policies are actually pretty conservative - other than his call to legalize mar1juana, i think most mainstream republicans would be inline w/ his views. its his foreign policy/war on terror/israel & mid-east/military-industrial-complex positions that would keep someone like palin and him from joining up. paul is not going to back off his convictions and he knows sarah palin is a fool - he hasnt called her one outright, but you can tell what he thinks of her when he is asked.
To be accurate, Paul argues for the wholesale dismantling of the WoD, not just legalizing mar1juana. Carry on.
I am going to have to agree with you on this one. Both parties spend like mad men when in office and both need to stop!!! They just have different pet projects and programs where they want to spend like there is no tomorrow.
Democratic "pet projects": Extending health care to all Americans Infrastructure - Roads, bridges, etc. Republican "pet projects": Tax cuts to the extremely rich An unnecessary war
the difference though is that the democrats arent hypocrites about it. the louder someone cries about being a 'fiscal conservative', the less fiscally conservative they actually are (see reagan and junior). kind of like the more homophobic someone is, the more likely that they are actually gay.
the health care bill is up for a lot of debate. It is going to cost taxpayers even if they keep saying it won't. Also I for one enjoyed the Bush Tax cuts and wish Obama would extend it. I am even close to being considered the extremely rich and under Obama my taxes may go up quite a bit.
although i agree a lot of the republicans are by no means fiscal conservatives the Democrats in power right now are spending like they can just print money out of thin air.. wait they can!! raising the debt limit and having the hugest budget deficit is not the way to go. Which was my point both parties need to cut spending!
I for one have no issue with paying more taxes if all Americans are covered with some form of healthcare.
Everyone enjoys tax cuts when they don't have to pay for it. Which taxes in particular are going up for you?
Unfortunately, the primary system sort of plays to the "base" of the party. Social policies are what gets the base fired up and to the polls. For example, flag burning and gay marriage will probably be big topics again in 2012.
well I won't go into any details but let's just say I might be seeing a increase in my federal income tax and the capital gains tax. The one problem I have with the Obama administration and the Democrats in power right now is this notion that someone making over 250k a year is considered rich. Like I said in my earlier post I am no where considered the elite or super wealthy. Out here in San Diego a small condo costs 500k+. If you want to start a family in a decent neighborhood you are looking at around 800k for a single family home at around 2500 square feet. After federal income taxes, capital gains tax, state income tax(California by the way just raised it and is one of the highest in the nation) your 250k is now looking a lot like 100-125k. To pay that 800k mortgage that is around 5k a month or 60k a year. So yup 250K may get you by pretty far in some other states but out here in So Cal or the bay area you are still basically living paycheck to paycheck and you have to work your butt off to get by. Anyways not trying to rant here but I do think we need a major overhaul in our tax code. It is just way too complicated if you have a diverse investment portfolio or own property or a business. As for health care reform I agree something needs to be done but I am not sure what. So I will just wait and see what Obama and congress decides to do.
Do people have any idea what the top tax rate on people was in 1945-65-and 85. Here's a hint, whatever Obama proposes, it will be lower than each of these years, yes including a reagan year.
