"There's a reason teams waive players?" What are you kidding me? Mercer doesn't suck, he just happened to only be getting 10 minutes behind Bowen, Ginobili, and Hedo. Just because he's worse than those three doesn't mean he isn't worth picking up for the right price. Not necessarily saying we should, but you can't just automatically discount a guy because he was waived.

I understand people that say no, don't mess with the roster now. I completely agree (above).

    But never say never.

This offseason there will most likely be significant change in the backcourt. What if one of our 40 min players is gone? (SF or Cat) What if Adrian Griffin's knee gives out?

I view Mercer as Adrian Griifin + . After bouncing around so much, maybe Mercer will be grateful to play a role. He's got massive potential on D (think back to Kentucky). If you could ever coax more of that potential out, you'd have a great back-up swingman, a serious player.

Hell, if Eddie Griffin proved himself on and off the court over the span of a few years, I'd sign him for the right price, too. :p

For some reason I thought he was older than that.

We already have Cat, JJ, Pike, AG, Boki that play the 2 and the 3.

Pike shoots better, AG better D and hustle

    No thanks

    Mercer doesn't shoot the three

What we need from our swingman is a solid 3 point shot

Mercer doesn't fit with this team

Let's go to war with what we got and make adjustments in the summer...after the playoffs. Then we can throw some MLE $ at Hedo or Manu. :)

Haha he was drafted in the incredible Celtics draft of '97. Those guys made a killing that year.

Ron Mercer is a good shooter with big size as a guard, so I suppose we`d better sigh him.

    Where is Dawson?

I don't know why he was waived. He is a fairly good player who can't shoot the 3 well but he has the size to back JJ up. We do have A.Griffin and Pike so I doubt he can fit in our system so quickly but I would still be tempted to have a look at him if he is physically fit and willing to play for us.

Being our small forwards are Boki and Eric Piatowski, we really do not have a SF. Pick him up on a 10 day contract.

Does he really shoot 25% from three point land? Then why the hell would you want him on an inside-out team? That's probably why the Spurs cut him in the first place.

I live in SA and have watched him play here (inside/out offense) and although he might not be as good as Hedo, Manu & Bowen I think that the Rockets could use him on accasions as a spark of the bench when the Rockets are struglling offensively.

He does not have a good three point shot but he is an excellent mid-range shooter!! That is a lost art these days. He does come off a bit selfish since he seems to rarely pass -- he's more like Vinnie "the Microwave" Johnson type without the defense.

on second thought, if he can't shoot threes, he sucks.

    Griffin also can not shoot threes, but he is a excellent defender;
and Mercer is not good at shooting threes as well, but he is a good mid-range shooter; so we need him. He`s better than Boki at present.

i dont understand this crave for bargain hunting. just because a decent player is availble for next to nothing some of us want to jump all over him even if we dont really need him.

in all of the trade threads that we have here, not one suggests getting this guy in the offseason. why is that? because we can't really use him, he doesnt fit.

I like Cato to go back as center. I think we need another PF.
