He fits on this team sooo well. I had my doubts but I have to say; if we don't resign Ron I will be very disappointed.
Law of averages suggest his shooting % is fool's gold. He will come back to earth eventually. The only question is if he'll continue to jack them up once it's obvious he's struggling from the field.
I don't know if his shooting percentage is going to vary, especially from distance, as long as he does not force his shots. Most off his looks are coming off Yao and ball rotation. He has proven to be deadly in that role. Dang, when he catches the ball off the rotation, spotted up and open, it's virtually automatic. Where Ron gets into trouble is when things get helter skelter and he thinks it is his job to right the ship. So he starts dribbbling around too much and forcing some shots. It's going to be up to Adelman and Brooks/Lowry to develop their play enough so that Ron doesn't become the primary initiator from outside. He may be the primary playmaker from outside but not the initiator. That is where him and McGrady differ and it is what caused him so much trouble the first half of the season. He kept trying to duplicate McGrady's game and they are different. He is our primary threat from deep, but it does not work efficiently with him initiating the offense. That has to come from Brooks/Lowry. If they stay in that role, if Adelman continues to put them in that role, and if Artest continues to play the wing as the primary scorer/playmaker after the point guard initiates the offense, I think his shooting percentages will remain very consistent.
setting aside that there is no actual law of averages, what average are you talking about? ron's average for the season of 41.1%? or his average sin sacramento of 44% and 45%? or his best season in indiana shooting 49% from fg , 41% from 3, and 92% from the FT line? ron artest is a proven scorer and an excellent spot up shooter from 3; as long he's taking smart shots, he'll make them at a high clip. the only thing bringing his % down are the forced shots he takes which, much like tmac, you gotta live with if you also want the good that he provides.
Ron-Ron is currently #15 in the league in 3pt%, just above Jason Kapono. Other big 3pt names that he's left in the dust: Vladimir Radmanovic, Roger Mason, Ben Gordon, Ray Allen
just pleeeassse keep it up and do it in the playoffs, im dying to celebrate SOMETHING this year, i can't tell you how many close calls i have had with my tv, i threw a shoe at it when gideon missed the interception in the ut v tech game and i've thrown a few things at it during the playoffs the last 2 years
Yeah... I agree. His best season was in Indiana... and those were good playoff teams. I think when he's playing for a good team, his averages get higher. Not 55% from 3 high tho.
From the Simmons/Morey Interview simmons: look at Kidd. His 3 point shot is higher this year. Why? Because he's not the primary shooter. Turns out, he's a great spot up shooter when wide open. Morey: we wish we could leave Kidd open, but we can't No one knew how Ron would respond to be left wide open. As it turns out he is pretty good when he breathing room.
Ron's shooting those treys like the basket's a yard wide. This is the guy we hoped would impact the Rocks in a big way, as long as he kept his head on straight. Not only has he been cool, but he's stepped up and become a team leader. I love his game.
Ron Artest's toughness alone has given this team a completely different look. I would presume that not to many teams would want to play the rockets in the playoffs. The guy brings it every night and will not back down from anybody. The rockets finally have their knifefighter.
One major reason is Artest had many wide open looks because Yao attracts a lot of attention and the passing had been much crisper (not just Yao, but overall). I haven't watched many Sacramento's games when Artest was there, but I can imagine his looks weren't as open then.
So you're implying that if the Rockets were able to sign him to an extension he would become complacent and half-a$$ it? I don't think so. He's a competitor and the Rockets have a great locker room that is conducive for Ron. Playing hard is in his nature.
I agree. He may not continue to shoot THIS well but he was shooting so poorly early on that it seems more likely that he'll continue to be a force. His ankle is healed up, he he knows his role, and he knows what guys are going to be out there with him each night. This is the best team we've had in a while.
He's making a great case for himself right now. Rockets have to do whatever it takes to resign him. He keeps getting better each game.
No, he wouldn't become bad, he would just not be as good as right now. After hearing the radio the other day, the commentator pointed out that when players get older, they start camping a bit more at the 3-point line, and that its great when it falls. But i'm afraid that at the end of this season, if we extend Artest to lets say a fat 5-year-deal and that his shot isn't following anymore, well that we are just stuck with the guy.
