RON ARTEST's defense is so OVER-rated its not even funny

Yes, 100% right, but JVG on the 610 said the opposite thing, he thought Artest's offense is underrated, now it looks untrue, this team still depend on Yao and Tmac too much on the offense, we need Artest to score more.

 

ron artest is a great on the ball defender. but unlike battier, he cannot guard guys going off screens. rudy KILLED him last night; ray allen scored also when ron switched on him to end the 4th.

battier hopefully will regain his quickness b/c he was great running guys around screens and contesting shots.

 

some of your points are valid but you're only looking at when bad things happen. no defender is gonna completely shut down anyone. the NBA has good players. you write all this and whine like a b**** but you forgot that Artest held Roy to 4 points pretty much through 3 quarters. and i only saw Fernandez score on him twice. think before you write next time

 

Oh yeah, that strip of Roy that sent the game to OT is so "overrated."

No really though.... Artest is a great defender. You guys need to understand that it's not easy for Artest right now. He's guarding one guy and then guarding another. Let me give you an example. Last year when the Rockets played the Lakers, Shane assignment is to guard and only guard Kobe. That's easy because you know that you only have to worry about one guy.

Now look at Artest. Celtics game is a good example. He guarded Pierce the whole night. And he kept him to like 12 points i think. Then T-Mac was getting soo burned by Ray Allen, they moved Artest on to him. Artest got burned a few times with Allen and the reason is because he was working only on Pierce the whole night.

When you keep changing who Artest is suppose to guard in a game, it does affect him. He did real good against Roy for the first three quarters. Then he had to guard Rudy and it threw him off. Shane normally only guards one person the whole game. He's even taken out when the player comes out. That goes to show something!

Put the pipe down, Ron D on Roy kept him in check until 59 SW at 4am Brent Barry came in and he quickly lit him up like a match.

 

Great offense beats great defense every single time. Great defenders like Artest just put themselves in great position more times than not.

Kobe is a great defender, but I'm sure everyone remembers Francis eating him up in the Yao/Shaq game when Francis went off for aboutu 40.

Jordan was a great defender and we've all seen him get his ankles broken by Iverson.

Shane, the great defender he is, routinely gets torched by Kobe and other guys. He just makes it harder for them. No one player can shut down another great player by himself. That's not how it works.

 

ambrose you're an idiot...you see how often this guy disrupts players and gets steals...did you check brandon roys shooting percentage yesterday?? artest getting run off moving picks is obviously to his disadvantage....

obviously he's gonna get exposed every so often by smaller fast players...give me a break this guy is a stud

Ron Artest never was as good when covering quick guards running around screens. You try to move it when you're 6'7'' and have 265 pounds of muscle in you. Battier is more effective in these situations. However, Ron does a fantastic job defending stronger swingmen, such as LeBron, Pierce and Maggette. We need Shane back.

Artests D is hardly overrated. he had destroyed roy all night prior to that point. if mcgrady hadnt stuffed up on that last play, this thread would have never started. bash tmacs awefull defense instead of rons " UNDERRATED" defense.

i beg to differ.. ask yao to take 2 steps back and fling his arms up and Roy's shot is off by at least a foot.

 

ron artest's D has been superb.

we brought him here moreso for his creativity and dominance on offense, not defense. outside of the dallas game, his shooting has stunk. hopefully, whenever shane will get back, he can focus more on his offense. we need a 3rd scorer, not a 2nd shutdown defender.

Ron's defense is good, but last game should put to rest the argument of Ron being able to guard point guards. I'd have to agree that he's way overrated by this board.
