I guess some people only have short term memory. Overrated because of 17 points??? What about stripping Roy in the last few seconds? Not to mention that Roy is probably a lot quicker than Artest...

Who would the OP consider putting on Roy?

This is an absolutely terrible thread. Dude, don't you get it, he hit a 30 footer to begin with, and second of all he wasn't even Ron's assignment as Brooksball pointed out, and Roy hit 1/3 of his shots tonight counting a complete miracle shot that shouldn't have even counted. With that being said, please make a valid point; and for your information, Ron and Kevin Garnett are the best two defenders in the league, we all know that, now please wake up.

Well I suppose it's just a natural progression of things, Tracy should come off the bench, Yao should stop costing this team games, and now Ron is barely capable of defending a small child in a car seat.....

Nice to see that we can always expect well thought out threads after games, the GARM never lets me down.

Seriously though, freaking prayer at the end of the game after the team battled through another tough game. Ron's D was solid throughout and he pretty much guarded every Blazers player. Roy hit a miracle shot at the end, he should have been covered but he was still a good 30 ft away from the basket, Roy just hit the shot.

you're right and wrong at the same time. yesterday i read about how battier's defense is so overrated and that artest is much better at guarding the perimeter players because he's quicker and more athletic. i laughed at this post but didn't reply.

now, this is not about who's the better defender artest or battier. they're both great, but also very different. the thing is, people here have to understand that artest is not great at everything defensively. when i watched the game against the kings in preseason i had their local guys commentating. they said numerous times that artest just lacks the quickness to guard a guy like kevin martin. they said he could do that earlier in his career but not now anymore. and they were right. artest is your ideal defender to get all tough and physical with a perimeter player but he's a lot worse when it comes to guarding quicker players especially when they're running around screens. i've also seen that numerous times now. ray allen in the boston game, now rudy fernandez. it's very obvious that we need battier very badly for those purposes. please come back soon, shane.

Artest's defense is not overrated. He is as good as you can get. But he is not better than Battier. They are just different. We should be grateful to have both of them.

Now, Artest's OFFENSE is overrated. Some of you guys think he is on the same level as McGrady and Yao. He is not. He cannot carry a team offensively. He is a very good 3rd option. A decent 2nd option. A very poor 1st option.

very interesting topic... I will discuss on the show today if anyone is interested....

I tend to think the best defenders get beaten sometimes on tendency and over pursuit. But in my opinion, Ron's defense is better than I expected.

I will post a thread too....

Roy is a career 45% shooter. He shot 33% last night. On 2 of his jumpshots Barry was guarding him. Roy wasn't doing anything when Artest was on him. I don't know what game you were watching to say this about Artest. YES he did get beat a couple of times in the 4th for playing to close on Roy, but it happens. You can't hold the guy scoreless.

And on Rudy Fernandez, I remember him beating Ron twice. Once when he got screened twice by Outlaw or Aldridge for the 3 and once when he played the screen right and Fernandez drove it by him for a layup over Yao. You try to do that while chasing Roy down for the whole game. At least he was better at guarding Fernandez than Barry.

Anyway you cut it, Artest is a great defender and this thread is STUPID! Imagine how our defense will be like with Battier and Artest. I can't wait!!

Basically, Artest is so muscular that it makes it difficult for him to fight through screens. Battier is much less muscular, and does a better job. When Artest gets picked, its someone else's job to pick up him man.

At the end of the game, that was Tmac...and he blew it.

T-Mac was guarding Allen when he was taking over the game. Artest was on Pierce. When they switched to Artest guarding Allen and T-Mac guarding Pierce, I remember Bill Worrell saying, "Now watch them go to Pierce."

Let me get this straight - Roy shot 6 for 18 from the field and several of those makes came against Brent Barry who is old and somewhat defensively challenged. Actually against Artest, Roy was probably 3 for 14 but because he hit a miracle shot and was given a break by his clock keeper, Artest all of the sudden is being blamed for it and that he is overrated for his defense??

To the OP - you fail at life - quit posting in this forum if this thread is all you are capable of posting.

i agree with you. t-mac was way worse than ron. allen was open all the time when he lost t-mac through the screens. ron was better, but allen still was killing him. that's my point. battier is way better at chasing people around screens and always having a hand in their face. that's why we need him. artest is better at getting into the passing lanes and being physical with guys. we need that also. but having artest chasing guys around screens will not only not work out well defensively, it will also limit his effectiveness on offense.

Crazy,Have you ever been playing basketball, if you did , you wouldn't say that. You doubt Artest's defense just because of the final two shots.

Why don't u go and ask Roy how he feel tonight , I bet he'd been struggling all night until the two final shots, And the final shot I blame on Mcgrady,
though Mcgrady did a great game, but not enough, his defense sucks
it's not my intension to say, It's not us give him burdens, it's himself,
Everything he tough the ball, other teammates didn't know how execute the plan, why don't we pass the ball quickly and look for a wide open shot,
what things in Mcgrady's mind was an Pick and Roll then pass or layup, or a jump shot, ...
Obvious sometime it goes well, but I don't like the type he play. This is not the way how a team gets Champion..

someone needs to put this kid back in his cage.

wish ron would post something. he is the best defender we got this year. given ron anf battier are two different kind of defenders. battier would complete our defensive along with ron, because they can cover up all kinds of holes.
