I was there, as was pretty much every TV station. You have to remember, this is the 3rd Artest press conference that has happened since the trade. There was a conference call, and another availability about a week ago. If this was the 1st presser, I'm sure alot of stations would have gone live with it, but pretty much every question to be asked has been asked at this point.
The actual press conference that happened at 10:30 was live on 790. TV stations were unable to stream it live because it was not held in the normal press conference room that is outfitted with the video and audio drops to broadcast it live. Had it been on the main floor (like the McGrady press conference) or the normal press conference room it would have been streamed live. I thought Artest's best line from the 10:30 press conference was "Houston IS a problem." playing off the ol' tired "Houston, we have a problem" line.
610 sucks.... Not trying to be mean, Mattj but I've never cared about how 610 has covered the Rockets. There is always soo much Texans/Astros talk and never enough Rockets talk. At least you talk about them though.
I may have heard wrong but I think I heard Ron call Morey, Dave. When Bill Worrell was talking about stopping Kobe, Ron said something about "Yeah Dave says I could stop Paul Pierce too". I think I hear him call him Dave in the press conference video when Morey turns it over to him too. Anyway the rally was short and kind of weak to what I expected, but it was fun and if you are a true Rocket fan you wouldn't have minded, if you are a fair weather fan you might have thought it was a waste of time. I'm a true fan so I enjoyed anyway
All I can say is: Damn right!!! If I had a wish of list of what Artest would have said it wouldn't has been as good as everything he said. I really thought this guy was the dumbest, most illiterate guy in the NBA from some of the remarks he made 5 years ago. So I now officially eat crow: He's one of the best interviews I've ever seen in the NBA. He articulates his passions and confidence in his game with dignity and class and his innate intelligence just really shines through. In a football first city, Houstonians are going to deify this guy. Book it.
Also I was standing kind of close and saw Chuck Hayes walking around down the hallway. Ron and him embraced after the rally and right before all the media guys circled Ron for interviews. I guess there is a lot of respect there since Ron has mentioned what a great player Chuck is several times
i cant wait for this season to start! ron artest is going to be a great addition to our team. also, it was awesome when he mentioned hakeem olajuwon and how he would like for this team to be like the great rockets championship teams! no layups!
I had a good time! Daryl Morey....."I have never seen fans like this, better than Cleveland Browns fans and Boston Celtics fans, you guys are the best fans I have ever been around" that and Ron Artest....."we are gonna go into Utah and take the salt out of their lake"
Yeah I know but the guy who heard it on the radio made it look like something is about to be announced.
if the TC, even those rich corporate people, isn't rowdy and raucous throughout the season with the acquisition of ron artest, something is def. wrong.
