He was asked to try to get a critical defensive rebound just once out of three tries in crunch time in game 7 . . . and he will never be able to cover that despite making 17mm and 7 foot 6 franchise center.
Yeah...he will NEVER do it....just ask Kevin Garnett how long never lasts.... You are leaping to massive conclusions giving BS absolutes to try to make a point. "Yao will NEVER be able to get a critical defensive rebound....NEVER..." that is just beyond silly. DD
Artest is not coming, and we don't need him..... I know you guys like him as much, I just don't .....glad the Rockets are of a like mindset as me....tweak smartly, don't overhaul, unless something huge falls in your lap.....Gasolish.... DD
This has been my point for a long time. I think people have been too high on our team because we have had nice regular season outings. Our success is mostly because of our lockdown team defense and hustle. The problem is that these are the same things that teams get better at when the playoffs roll around, so we have no advantage then. It doesn't have to be Artest but we need some major upgrade if we expect to take our team to the next level. We need 3rd, 4th, even 5th options on offense that can score when the D tightens up in the playoffs.
Look, I don't mind passion...and talent....I am not against getting BETTER players, I would trade Battier for Outlaw..... I am against Artest......he is a nutcase....... I am not willing to risk a team I think is very close on a nutcase..... I am concerned that he comes in and screws up the chemistry this team has....... And I do not for one minute think the 22 game streak was luck or a bad thing to happen..... I think it was more indicative of a team that is finally getting it together under a new coach. Why some people point to the streak and go..."Fools gold" is beyond me.....do these same people believe that the team is as bad as they were at the first of the year? Or that they win because they outhustle other teams ...what hogwash...plenty of teams play hard and don't win......THIS TEAM WINS.... Get them healthy to the playoffs and watch what happens. Because I believe they are going to be VERY good....with their small additions......and could even be great. Success is built upon the lessons of failure..... DD
how has our team faired in the past 5 seasons????????????? defense rests like someone said........lets play devils advocate and say he explodes.....what is he blowin up a first round exit team............!!!!! what exactly is it that we are harming here......it cant get much worse........
Clearly those saying or thinking this have not been Rocket fans for that long.....or have very short memories. DD
What's beyond silly is your lame analogue. You are the one leaping to idotic conclusions. What the hell are we supposed draw from your lame Garnett analogy - that one day in 2014 (if his legs aren't both ground into dust, which is a distinct possibility) that Yao will be traded to another team with two other superstars and he will become a defensive specialist? I guess if magic were possible this is likely .... much like the way you expect Brooks to turn into Bob Cousy. What's beyond silly is your selective memory, and the way you pretend like evil Van Gundy and the high pick and roll was the sole, solitary problem with Yao in that series - or even relevant to the specific situation I cited. I will refresh your memory with Clutch's recap of his performance that year: What's beyond silly is pretty much any claim you make. That's why nobody is listening to you on Artest - you're just posting to hear your own voice and making sh-t up as you go along.
You're the same guy who in 2006 took up the cause of fat, lazy, out of shape Bonzi over JVG and pitched a whining fit when he didn't play - no you don't want head cases unless you do, in which case you want them - same old inconsistent schtick.
That a guy that was labled a first round bust year after year can finally find success.....which is why your lame absolutes don't hold water. No doubt Yao didn't get that rebound, but I am also willing to realize that he was not 100% healthy and the rest of the team did not help him or Tmac all that much. And we had a flawed coach.....who was stubborn in his unwillingness to make adjustments..... What is silly is people that are pining for a nutjob like Artest to come in and save the franchise, or that the team's 22 game win streak was fools gold....or somehow due only to the team outhustling their opponents. This is the NBA.....it is the 2nd longest streak IN HISTORY.....it has merit, and shows what the current team could become with a little tweaking...but people would rather take massive risks and bring in an idiot like Artest. I am glad Morey is playing it smarter than that. SHEESH !!! DD
Talk about making stuff up or having a short term memory......I am the guy who said that "BONZI DOESN'T FIT" DD
When completely healthy, the rockets lose the same way every time. They get out talent-ed. Most teams lose because they underestimated their opponent or they had an off shooting night that doesn't happen to them. Every night is an off shooting night. When you mix hustle/defense with talent it is almost impossible to beat in the regular season that's the case with most championship teams but at some point if you take a chance on a Antoine Walker, a Dennis Rodman, a Stephen Jackson, or a Rasheed Wallace you might have some success.
or a Scottie Pippen, JR Rider, or Damon Stoudamire......sometimes you lose.... I don't mind risk.....I am all about risk in my every day life....I mind unecessary risk... Artest is the definition of High Risk, high reward.....I prefer Low risk, high reward. Again, I would do the trade if you don't give up a major piece.....Luther, Bjax, Francis, Hayes, a pick...fine....anything more...is too risky. DD
Oh come ON, people say this like it is some accepted fact.....when I think it is categorically wrong..... You think that the Rockets won 55 games last year without any talent and just hustle? Almost every night we have a mismatch at the C and SG positions....and we are getting better at other postions too. You can not have a perfect team, it doesn't exist, you can have a team that is good enough to win...and that is where a healthy Rockets team resides...IMO. DD
You said that in between saying "BONZI MUST PLAY!!" about a hundred times. Relax, it's not the first time you've been incredibly and irreperably contradictory
LOL - making stuff up again, typical Sam Fisher......I never liked Bonzi for some of the same reasons I don't like Artest. But, just keep on making stuff up, it is typical you. We shall see which side Morey falls on, and whether he persues Artest.....I am confident that the organization is thinking more on the tweaking side. DD
DD you got a record goin with the replys in this thread.....u are def on a roll my friend.......... I dont know if this guy tried to step to your wife, knocked your mom down in the grocery store, or tripped your kid at recess............but u seem to be very passionate on not gettin this guy.............. and one of the lone passionate guys by yourself against the rest of the board........very admirable but realistically your arguement is "We are right there".....how so????? what are u basein your logic on.....because all we can do is go on what we have seen........not speculation at this point........ lets deal with facts alone...not opinions for a sec we are a first round exit team until we prove otherwise....PERIOD.....nobody can dispute this with facts.......we have lost in the playoffs..........for several seasons and secondly we have fragile stars who take an estimated 20 game exit the last couple of seasons....this again is facts.......so how can anyone say based on facts that that wont happen again....... like i said all we can go on is what we have seen...........and thats what we have seen I am not the biggest artest fan......but anytime u have a chance to get a player of his caliber u go for it...........to good to pass up.......and when our fragile stars take there anual injury break....we are good and dont miss a step WE ARE A FIRST ROUND EXIT TEAM..........what is ron ron really destroyin here........?????????? take this same team next season and put us in another playoff series with utah, with this same squad, and do u honestly like our chances???????? I dont.....get artest here and fast......
Well that's not what i meant at all. I mean that the rockets are maxing out in the defense/hustle/intangibles departments most games. I see it all the time. The rockets are playing their hearts out and they are in a reasonably close game and then the other team decides they need to match that intensity and the game is over, alot of times it becomes a blowout. The rockets don't have much talent outside of Yao/Tmac, therefore they don't have much leeway. C'mon you see it. They'll play a game and get down 15 points and you know the game is all but over, they can't play any harder. Our big aquisition, Brent Barry, was a 3rd stringer on the Spurs...and many agree that he will be a big help talent wise. When this rockets team loses you're almost not even upset because they played hard, there's almost no hope.
