Due to Houston and Sacramento being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Sacramento had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. Guys...please...lets get Artest!!! As you can see, he has immense respect for Coach Adelman. They worked wonderfully together when they were together back in Sacramento, so why wouldnt they replicate that success here?! I love Shane, but the thing is Artest is just as good a defender, as well as he can contribute on the offensive end as well! Its not like if Kobe averaged 15ppg against us while being defended by Shane! Lets support the Artest to Houston chant!!!
^^^^^^ regarding that trade...my opinion is we also get quincy douby back from that trade, or we keep steve francis and give them like a first rounder. otherwise that leaves us too shallow at PG...we are taking a bogus contract back after all and they are rebuilding.
I think the Kings would pee-pee all over that trade. If they dealt with us, they'd have to get more than expiring contracts since Artest is an expiring contract himself. I'd think they'd want to get a starting caliber player back (Battier?) plus some cheap youth (Brooks?) plus a pick. If they're looking to dump Kenny Thomas on us, then we add Bobby Jackson to the mix. If they only want talented players who end before the '09-'10 off-season, then I think we're just SOL. Unless McGrady is involved somehow, which makes zero sense.
In a trade involving Artest to Houston, we would have to give up Battier. But however I don't see Battier being in Sac-town's long term plans. Assuming Sacramento wants a few high-upside young players, I could see this deal: Houston recieves: Ron Artest, Sergio Rodriguez Houston trades: Shane Battier, Aaron Brooks Portland recieves: Shane Battier Portland trades: Ike Diogu, Sergio Rodriguez, Martell Webster, '09 lottery protected 1st. Sacramento recieves: Ike Diogu, Martell Webster, Aaron Brooks, 1st from Portland Sacramento trades: Ron Artest
Give them Brooks, Battier and a resigned Landry. I don't think this trade happens without one of our power forwards from last year, a starter and as we know, they like brooks. It would be nice to get Artest but I don't think the Kings will take back our roster trash for him. That would still leave us with Bjax, Head, Francis' contracts to use at the trade deadline to fill up any weakspots on the roster which looks like it would be in the back court. The reality is the Maloof's have already said they won't deal with Adelman so we'd really have to make it worth it to the Kings to get Artest.
Anyone who is proposing to trade Battier for Artest needs to know this: Daryl Morey is the GM of the Rockets and he will not do such a trade. Whether you like it or not, it ain't gonna happen. So stop dreaming.
are u serious??????????? not both....and why not both??????.......... the rockets should give there firstborn as long as tmac and yao arent touched for artest........ u have got to be kidding me right now............. I'd say a championship run is WELLLLLL WORTH.........the gamble as opposed to another first round exit........ head on straight or not.........a lineup with this guy included and i like our chances against anybody bar none..... and thats worth anything they want on our roster not named yao and tracy
Anything in life requires risk and relationship. If morey wants in, he needs to ask Petrie what he want off the Rox roster. We know the rox will have to take either KT or SAR contract which means the rox can come up with about 16m. Next after that is established, the can ask to speak with Artest about a extension. I'm thinking 4 yrs 50 m. He would take that in a ny minute. Now the compensation. Battier, Jackson, Francis and a 1st for Artest with his extension and Shareef or KT. If they want Brooks instead of Francis or the pick, that's cool because the rox could offer Barnes 2.5 for 3 yrs. Now with Barry, Tracy, and Artest, the rox have 3 ballhandler which would allow head to play backup pg, but don't have to set the offense. Thomas or Shareef when healthy can backup scola thus letting landry walk.
This is how I see it. The majority of Rockets fans, pained by early playoff exits and getting more and more desperate (to the point of irrationality) support throwing away all kinds of assets (expirings, young talent, Battier) for a player who is a knucklehead. A talented as all hell knucklehead, no doubt, but a knucklehead nonetheless. Management know what they are doing by not showing interest in Artest. I trust them. They surely can see that the risk of bringing him in - which will cost pretty much the farm - heavily outweighs a chance to be second round and out for the next season or 3. We have a chance to be greater for longer with a few minor tweaks. And if it doesnt work out in the next 2 years - McGrady expires in 2010 and we can retool.
Love this part of the article : Not saying he isnt an ideal family man, but thats not an indicator of quality family time together.
best trade you can do IMO is: battier, bjax, and head for kenny thomas and artest i checked it on espn trade machine and it worked out fine our depth chart would then be: rafer/(barry)/brooks tmac/barry/francis artest/greene/[novak OR harris] scola/landry/hayes/dorsey yao/deke/(dorsey)/woods
I very much wanted Abdur Rahim over Stomile Swift 2 years ago. Both losers but at least he's an accomplished loser. Dont really want him now but at the very least he'd be the Juwan Howard of this team. Would hate to see a guy like Battier waste away in Sactown but on paper this deal is way in the Rockets favor.
You can't sign and trade Landry if you sign him using an exception, which is the only way we could. Not for 3 months anyway, and Artest would be long gone by then.
I'm sure he'd want more than the MLE. Bird Rights would come over with the trade, so we'd be in a position to give him more money. If we were to trade Battier though, I'd want him to sign an extension because I don't want to risk losing him at the end of the season (otherwise, no trade).
