This thread is good comedy. There is one thing that interests me though. The bit about Adelman not being interested in coaching Artest again. Anyone has a bit more info? It certainly looks like Artest would be interested in playing for Rick again.
?? Kobe, Pau, Odom Sheed, Billups, Rip KG, Ray, PP Paul, West, Peja Duncan, Manu, Parker Howard, Hedo, Rashard 3 legit scorers are needed to make noise in the playoffs. Phoenix trades away Marion, and they're out in the first round. Dallas tries and trade for the pass first, shoot last PG Kidd, and same result as Phoenix.
We agree 100%. Houston should NOT add a 3rd scorer. Sincerely, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobilli, Tim Duncan, Chauncey Billups, Rip Hamilton, Rasheed Wallace, David West, Peja Stojakovic, Chris Paul, Steve Nash, Amare Stoudamire, Shaquille O'Neil, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer, and Andre Kirilenko.
Those Darn Rookies.....always into something........cant take your eye off them for one second....... lol
If we had the chance to, I would take it, but you are making it sound like it is necessary to be champs. The Heat didn't have 3 consistent scorers, but they won. The Lakers dynasty had a good 1-2 punch built around GOOD role players. Am I wrong or right?
The point of your argument that is most flawed, DD, if even any one thing can be singled out, is your citing of the additions/emergence of Scola and Landry as some monumental moves distancing us from the rest of the West, when in reality we just finally have a competent situation at power forward. It's sad that the bar has been set so low by a perpetuating tradition of incompetence that simply having competent NBA players manning our top rotation spots is cause for jubilation. Every team in the West has peripheral parts - Korver, Okur, Barbosa, Hill, Fisher, Bynum, Radmanovich, Chandler etc etc OUTSIDE of their big 3. Finally getting one thing right doesn't suffice.
I agree with DD that Artest would be a huge chemistry risk. I would still do it, but only if the following players were not included: Yao, T-Mac, Scola, Battier (and Barry, who is out of the question anyway as he just signed). Everyone else, including Landry, Brooks and a first-round pick would be fair game in my book. I think it would be extremely important to keep Battier - first as insurance in case Artest goes crazy, secondly as a calming and steady locker room influence (his level of intelligence/well-spokenness (is that a word?) and Artest's combined probably come out to about average), thirdly simply because he is a very good player who knows how to play the right way. A defense of T-Mac (when he wants to actually play defense), Battier and Artest on the perimeter and Yao with a shot-blocker (Dorsey or Mutombo) around the paint just sounds awesome.
What is flawed about that argument? Before, we sucked badly at two positions (point guard and power forward). Now we are only below average at one position (point guard). Sounds like a significant improvement to me.
Your point being.................... 2 things in common on both accounts............. Shaq was Def the most dominating force in the universe at the time.......big difference....................... If yao had half the impact on a game that Shaq had at the time we wouldnt need alot of things.....but he doesnt............. move along....nuthin to see here..........
That proves nothing. You're picking one characteristic of those teams and assuming it's the primary reason they're successful. It's just like everyone saying as long as Alston's been here that you need a great point guard to compete. The Finals blew that theory out of the water. Orlando and NO both won only 1 series. With Yao Ming, the Rockets finish first and win a series, "third scorer" or not. Btw, where is Cleveland on your list? And again, people continue to underestimate Scola.
You're wrong. The Lakers dynasty featured arguably the greatest duo in NBA history. Most here have come to grips with the fact that Yao/McGrady are not that or anywhere close and will need some serious help. They're no better than any other star duo in the West (Williams/Boozer etc.), only difference being those duos have a 3rd guy to fall back on when things aren't clicking.
They did win, but the days of the good big man, good wing, surrounded by role players days are over. Dream - Drexler, Shaq - Kobe, Shaq - Wade. 3 legit scorers are needed to advance far in the playoffs in today's game. All the legit contenders have too much firepower, as opposed to the Rockets, who have a lot of complementary players.
It is a significant improvement - but largely in part because the bar was set so low. It's not sufficient though. Just because you went from having 2 competent scorers on the team to 4, doesn't mean you're good enough yet. The improvement only looks miraculous because we were so pathetic to begin with.
How can anyone say this............................how???????? We played the jazz people.....prob the worst first round matchup we could possibly get out of all the west....and the team yao is a non factor against....... on Defense he cant guard anybody on there startin frontline........boozer or Okur............... and on offense they front him to death and use the weakside help and length of kirilenko which really bothers Yao............. please tell me how he would of helped out.........we are better served against them with landry and scola if u ask me..............with Yao in spurts......IMO
