Hey Mitt, I don't think there is such a thing as an anthropomorphic god. If you are going to base our entire government on his existence, can you please provide some empirical evidence? Religion is where philosophy goes to eliminate debate. "Our Omnipotent being is unknowable and works in ways we Earthly beings cannot understand" Well, guess you got me there. (Dear Lord, why am I stuck on this planet full of violent dumbasses?)
especially within the media. eugene robinson and keith olbermann were the only commentators that ive heard who thought the speech was awful. i think mitt could've said anything short of "i'm a mormon so **** off" and everyone would be saying how beautiful his speech was. i thought it was corny and stupid.
I really don't care if he's a Mormon. Having said that, it was a terrible speech, given very well. Just terrible. Not remotely as good as the one Jack Kennedy gave in front of a host of Baptist ministers, hostile to his Catholicism, in Houston. It was 1960, and with his religion coming up during the campaign as an issue, JFK decided to confront it head-on. He was for a secular government. Romney, apparently, or depending on who his audience happens to be, joins religion and government at the hip. And he completely blows off people like me, who happen to be agnostic. Romney was trying to be Jack Kennedy. I just wish Lloyd Bentsen had been there, may he rest in peace. Trim Bush.
His complete flip-flop and refusal to admit he's done a complete flip-flop on several issues is why I can't support Mitt Romney. I give him a zero on the character issue because of this. From my observation, he will say ANYTHING to get elected, which reminds me too much of Al Gore in 2000.
Al said enough for the country to realize who he really was, but IMHO, it's what he did in the month after the polls closed, that cemented, at least in my mind, that i'd made the right choice. and i've never regretted it since. a gore presidency would have been a disaster for this country.
