Dubon is clearly the starter at short for now.

I haven't checked the market, but I doubt there's a cheap option that is a significant upgrade over him. Probably need to get aggressive on the LF options and move Altuve back to 2B full time to compensate for losing Pena's bat.

Guillorme can play SS, maybe get some platoon starts

We were all feeling too good about this team. The other shoe was bound to drop.
Lance threw 12 straight balls and couldn't "accidentally" drill one of them?

How do NFL players play through it all the time? You’d think getting hit by some of those freaks would be worse than diving for a ball lol

Yeah he will probably be able to hit (potentially wearing a rib protector) 2-3 weeks before he can play the field. This is pretty devastating for the lineup. They’ve been playing way above their projections while Yordan has been out. Now would be a good time for Christian Walker to start hitting anywhere close to what he was expected to when he signed. Maybe they’ll give Whitcomb an actual chance to play since Dubon will be at SS every day.

I would think the twisting motion of swinging the bat is more sensitive to rib and back injuries than the kind of movement and contact done in football, especially considering the pads NFL guys can wear. But I also think football players are just more apt to play thru pain than baseball players.

Depends. Ribs are tricky. Probably 6 weeks I'd guess.

Yeah, I agree - I think hitting would be a bigger issue so don’t think DHing is possible like they said.

I assume severity plays a factor...what would cause a worse rib fracture, a fastball to the ribs or getting Snu Snu'd by Daniella?

We should trade for a medical staff.

It is clearly on purpose. They have done it with too many players. In some cases I can see the inflammation limiting the ability for imaging, but this "Oops it is a fracture" bit has extended for years now. Brown doesn't want the media, other teams to know the situation right out of the box.

Typically rib fractures are 5-6 weeks, up to 3 months depending on the size of the fracture and how well the person heals. I am going to assume that Pena heals quickly, he is young and in exceptional shape. I also am going to assume that the fracture isn't terrible because it would have been more obvious.

Mid August seems about right, could possibly be a few weeks longer than that as well.

Thank you for not waiting 2 months to tell us it was a fracture. There is that.

What better time to call up Brice than by July 4th. Dubon at SS, Brice at 2nd and Altuve goes back to his natural position of LF. Easy fix.

Cam and Brice battle it out for the ROY award.

I was listening to 610 at lunch and they said he is traveling with the team.............why would he travel, flying with a bad rib to Colorado of all places doesn't make sense to me. The Astros have ZERO credibility when it comes to Injuries

Time to call this young man up? He`s been excellent all year

Astros medical staff is the most incompetent that I've seen.

I can't imagine the Astros will call up Matthews for this.

While he "can" play SS, the Astros clearly think he's much better suited to 2B. He's already likely gonna have a hard adjustment given how much swing and miss is in his game, no need to add extra pressure to that.

When they think he is ready they will carve out a spot for him. Given that there already has been a spot open at 2B, I doubt they believe he's ready.

Time for the Astros to make a new 5 year contract offer with Pena assuming the $105mil fell through.
