you obviously didn't read it either since you just CTRL'V'd it without comment other than to claim that it said "what's in the manual" - which it doesn't. Even it it did why should I bother to read it? I mean the COIN manual is publicly available. If I want to read the COIN manual, I'll read the COIN manual, and not some crap you grabbed off FREEPER or whatever.
ah, i see you've played the freeper gambit, which, like the calling someone "hitler" means you've conceded the argument.
As long as we all agree that freeper = Hitler that is fine. Then your argument has some logical basis. I mean, unreasonably calling someone Hitler is stupid. Calling someone Hitler for correcting punctuation is unreasonable. But if they wear a little toothbrush mustache and march around talking about killing the Jews, then comparing them to Hitler seems perfectly reasonable and OK. Similarly, if someone comes with a freeper argument, then calling them the Hitler-esque freeper that they are seems entirely appropriate. It is only offensive if you try and paint someone as something as dispicable, disgusting, and offensive to humanity as a freeper if they aren't actually acting like a POS freeper. But since you are, it is entirely appropriate.
maybe you missed my post But I'd like to hear more of what you think Obama's view of the US is. I'm sure you aren't implying that his view is somehow UN-American right?
Which argument? The argument that Petraeus wrote the COIN manual? Or the argument that time machines don't exit? Or the argument that if I wanted to read the COIN Manual, I could just do so rather than read some dumb blog posting on it? Please specify and I'll notify you if a concession is warranted.
i'm not implying it- i'm stating it. his view(s) is antithetical to most of what i and my fellow travelers think of when we think ""american."
the argument that jd johannes said any thing about use of force in his discussion of COIN. you, w/ reading the article, made a rhetorical leap, and landed in a pile of dog****. stinks to be you.
So you are saying that he didn't write this part? Because that's strange, I went to the link and found it right there.
If I got paid for that, I would be George Bailey, the richest man in town. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TfVsvEvv94w&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TfVsvEvv94w&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
I just repped you for the great use of one of, if not THE, greatest movies ever made. I hope you are as good at your job as you are at your unpaid BBS hobby.
You know I called Bush a lot of names and criticized him till the cows came home, but I never implied or stated that he was anything but an American.
Then it would be irresponsible to not post the famous "lost ending" footage: <object width="512" height="288"><param name="movie" value="http://www.hulu.com/embed/Sw1TLtPVU6mgQT5aI1fIKQ"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.hulu.com/embed/Sw1TLtPVU6mgQT5aI1fIKQ" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="512" height="288" allowFullScreen="true"></embed></object>
Basso's article was interesting from a tactical point of view. Essentially biometrically or otherwise identify every last person in areas of Afghanistan than are not supporting our guy Karzai. Keep track of their whereabouts. Very labor intensive. Then kill or imprison those who don't like this soft type of lock down. It sure won't win any hearts and minds, but who cares. Sadly I suspect most Americans would go along with this if told it was necessary to protect us from "terrorism". I suspect that the Taliban and their backers will find a way to thwart this, but interesting. Another favorite tactic cited by right wingers is that used by the British in the Boer Wars. Lock up all the women and children in concentration camps and then hunt down the men or make them surrender. Effective. Not too many hearts and minds really won this way either. Of course the British were willing to send lots of settlers who then assisted the Boers in later years with suppressing the black population.
Well I was reading an article of sucessful counterinsurgency. It cited the Boer War as one of the more successful. No today's right wingers are more humane, I believe. I guess you would not approve?
there are many ways to put down a counterinsurgency. the british were brutal about in the boer war, we're trying to be more "humane," not always successfully, and at significant increased risk to our own troops. time will tell whether it's he right strategy- it worked in Iraq, but Afghanistan is a different war. try from about 3 minutes in, to ~ 8 minutes. one of my favorite scenes, in one of my favorite movies: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VLtj_rdVJus&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VLtj_rdVJus&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
