According to an article on the front page, other witnesses, besides the officers involved, side with the officer's version of events. The one witness that we've heard from, that says it was excessive, didn't see what happened beforehand.
Drinking? Maybe. DWI? Hardly. I've only had one. Again, Harris County Jail. Baker Street. The date was the first Monday morning after Thanksgiving in '99. That date should be easy enough to find. And, again. City police officials from other jurisdictions were transferring people in. Didn't bat an eye. You may want to talk to your police friends about exactly why they allow that behavior. I assure you, they are aware of it. Again, I'm not sure I follow this logic. Give the city better transport, or subsidized cab rides. They've done it in other cities. Right now, they keep stiffening the penalties without a viable alternative. That's politics lining their pockets, not saving lives. When I see the $2,000/yr that DWI people have to pay per year in fines go to alternative methods, such as free tows, or cab rides, I will always think this type of toleration is pathetic acceptance by its citizens. Again, I think I have a good track record of being honest. Again, not only is it true, other cops cast a blind eye when it happens. IMO, that's simply the cops who were bullied as kids getting bullied once again by the cops who were bullies. Tell you what, ask AB about his views on County Jail. Again, most have an agenda. I've met "good" cops, also. But they are the minority, not the majority.
Im not talking about arrests. You regularly flaunt your history of DUI (whether you were caught or not) and how much you can drink and drive home like you are proud of it. Thanks for the info. Will look into it. To the best of my knowledge, they don't. If this guys skull was cracked open against a concrete wall, I am sure there will be a report about it. So the city should pay for rides for people who can't control their alcohol intake? lol Beautiful. Maybe people should spend that 2,000 on their OWN transportation. Everybody wins there right?
I support our fine law enforcement officers as well ~ I just have a soft spot in my heart for Muff Thumpers.
Please show me proof of this. I guarantee that is not true. I'm sure you will....... You either haven't asked, or you're not as good friends with them as you think. Brilliant. I thought you were trying to keep them off the streets? Why not use this newly imposed fine to help keep everyone safe? Especially in a city as transportation necessary as Houston? Your logic is flawed here, not mine. http://policechiefmagazine.org/maga...n=display_arch&article_id=148&issue_id=112003 Exactly how are they supposed to behave around you? Hell, even murderers can be civil; even nice, when they want to be. It's all about the circumstance.
this is the biggest pile of crap said. cops don't have to worry about the consequences if they beat someone up or hell EVEN KILL someone for unjust reasons. they rarely get convicted of a crime that they committ, and the police dept.'s idea of "dealing" with someone is simply "re-assigning" them to another district, detail, or job duty. they don't lose their jobs or get fined HEAVILY for their actions. they get to keep their jobs for beating up, tasing and even killing suspects. it happens all the time. i remember back in the late 90's in NYC when cops shot an african immigrant 42 times because when they asked him what he was doing up so late, he reached for his green card because he couldn't speak english and 4 or 5 officers proceeded to shoot an unarmed, innocent man 42 f'in times. what happened to those cops???? not a g-damn thing. found innocent by some bullsh!t court and they got to go back to their jobs of killing innocent people. again, sorry if i have a problem with this nation's police dept.'s that when they make a mistake they either try to cover it up, make it go away, or just flat out let the officers or people who made the mistake get away with it, without an REAL punishment.
I trust cops less than ordinary civilians. I feel the vast majority of cops are corrupt and use there position to take advantage of other people or stroke their ego. While I'm sure there are decent people that are cops, I feel the ratio of bad to good is much higher in their profession than most others. I have no data to back this up, just my own prejudice/assumption.
You've never said that you drive better when you are drunk? Never said that stuff doesn't happen. Would like to see a report of what happened to prove that if indeed the story is true, then the officer was probably dealt with appropriately. You don't bash someones skull open and not see some sort of record or story about it. My logic is flawed? Your logic: My taxes should pay to get snonkered people home safely so they a) Don't kill anyone and b) Don't get caught and fined My logic: People should use their own funds, a cab a limo a bus, anything besides their own driving skills to get themselves home Well, according to you, they have no problem being assholes around you, so if the "majority" of them are like that, then surely the majority of them would be like that around me right? (not to say I haven't come across a rude officer or whatever, but during my professional dealings and personal dealings (2 arrests and numerous tickets) I have never been treated unfairly.
Uhhhh ....yes they do! Define all the time and give me examples. You are being dramatic with your verbage. Officers are taken to trial all the time over shootings, beatings, etc. They are dealt with as they should be (unfortunately, more often than not, their actions are usually deemed justified). "went back to their jobs of killing innocent people?" Im going to bow out at this point. You clearly have a severe grudge by this statement. Well agree to disagree. Have a nice night.
Maybe when I was 18. Not since I've been here, though. Oh, I'm sure there was a record of story. The police said they could claim self-defense on anyone who disobeyed them after the incident. Now, remember. This was in the front area where new jailees are taken. Very first room you enter. My logic has nothing to do with your taxes. I made it clear that they just levied a $2,000 fine/yr on first DWI offenders. My logic is about saving lives and getting people home safely. Your logic is to wave a finger in their face going "I told you so". BTW, how do you get home after going to Live Sports Cafe? I never said they couldn't be polite, or that they treated me rudely. Most treat me, a white affluent male, very fairly. They know I can probably sue their ass, otherwise. I'm talking about what I have seen some do to others, and how the other police reacted to it. I also pointed out that I've seen cops (off-duty) drink and drive their own cruisers home. Open your eyes!
And the person that posted the pics, right? Or is that somehow less reliable because it wasn't on TV?
codell i've given three examples in this thread of deplorable actions by cops who not only didn't lose their jobs, they weren't fined or punished for their actions. i'm talking about those 4 or 5 cops. they wen't back to work after killing an innocent man. to me they are killers and should be in jail for the rest of their lives, not working on a police force "protecting" citizens. it's obvious they didn't do a good job of that. i'm not calling all cops killers, but i am calling those cops killers because that's what they are. you are calling fatty a drunk, what's wrong with me calling a killer a killer?
Well I didn't know you when you were 18, so I must have seen you type it here. My point is, if the guys skull was busted open against the wall, in front of all these witnesses, then this guy was either taken to the hospital (which would lead to an investigation) or his dead body thrown in the bayou to dispose of evidence. Unless I mistunderstand, you want that $2,000 spent on free rides and tows right? So if the fines don't go to other much needed services (like those needed to prosecute DUIers), then the money comes from some place else. Our taxes. Hardly. My logic is making people responsible for themselves. No one forces anyone to drink beyond a legal limit. After I had 4-5 beers in 6 hours (none in the last hour)? I drove home. Those officers are wrong for doing that. I hope you reported them and hope that they were dealt with severely. Just like I hope the guys that cracked the guys skull against the wall are dealt with. All these bad apples you have been privy seem to represent a very very small percentage over the overall total # of law officers in the area. Its a shame that you now have little repsect for any law enforcement officer. A shame indeed.
The person that posted the pics didn't see what happened beforehand either. Its funny, both "DC" and the picture taker (they might be the same person) all said what happened was excessive, yet both admitted to not seeing what happened that led up to it.
You've given vague recollections. Id reserve my own judgement until I read about the ensuing trails and whatnot. Do you have any specifics? "went back to their jobs of killing innocent people?" ...quite different from just saying they are killers, which, according to you, a court of law, a jury, found them innocent, no?
Speak truthfully now. That pic where the cop is pinning her to the street with his knee on her throat doesn't seem a bit excessive? The person taking the pics definitely saw that. Compressing a person's airway is bad news, that's how little accidents happen ("oops, she died"). To be honest, I think using a Taser is more humane (and significantly less risky) than choking someone.
