Uhhhhh. No. My best friend is a federal agent. I always remember a story he told me about a raid he did about 3 years ago. A small woman, probably 5'1'' or 5'2'' and no more than 110 lbs soaking wet severely resisted during the raid. Took about 4 agents, including my friend, about 10 mins to subdue her. Out of them all, she ended up with the least amount of damage. My friend ended up with claw marks up and down both arms, another agent was bit three times, the 3rd agent was kicked so hard in the calf by her that he ended up having to have excess blood drained from the area and was on crutches for over 2 weeks and the 4th, amazingly suffered no injuries. The worst she got was pepper sprayed and some scrapes on her knees/legs from being dragged into the paddy wagon. Don't underestimate the power of a small woman who is high and/or drunk. If she physically resisted, short of killing her, he has the right to do whatever is necessary to apprehend her and defend himself.
The first thing officers are taught is to get a physically resisting suspect off their feet and take them to the ground immediately. If she was on skates (and even if she wasn't) I can definitely see how she could have suffered facial injuries in such a scenario.
Yeah? They don't have to worry about the person carrying weapons? having any needles on 'em? They're just supposed to just wrap their arms around the drunk woman to control her and gently put cuffs on her? Not care about getting bitten? Scratched? Kicked in the nuts (by a roller skate)? Break the law, and you'll get arrested. Resist the cops during arrest, and you'll get your ass kicked. That's how it works, (and, honestly, that's how it should work).
i don't know who to believe because we all know that the police dept. lies to cover their asses all the time and people on the street drunk themselves probably aren't telling the whole story either. regardless of the situation, anytime the officer has a right to bloody someone up like that is if they are physically threatened by the "perp". and considering the size and the fact that she is on roller skates, you don't need to bloody someone up like that. the action by the police officer was completely unecessary, i don't care what type of lie the police dept. comes up with.
By looking at the pictures, looks like the damage to her face was done by "pavement" burn. If she was actively resisting while the officer was trying to control her, then its her fault (look at the picture of her on her stomach with the officers knee in her back). I doubt the officer took her by the hair/head and rubbed her face into the pavement. If not, it was probably done when she was taken down. Officers don't beat people in the face when trying to control them. They go for the body and legs.
Police may investigate woman's arrest, scuffle 05:56 AM CST on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 Dallas police may investigate an arrest early Saturday in Deep Ellum that resulted in a scuffle between an officer and an Old East Dallas woman. Michelle Metzinger, 25, was being cited for public intoxication in the 2800 block of Elm Street, where she had been seen roller-skating in traffic. According to a police report, she clawed at the face of Officer Ceaphus Gordon, who then used a defensive maneuver that caused both of them to fall to the pavement. Officer Gordon was treated for scratches and bruises on his chin. Ms. Metzinger refused treatment at the scene but was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where she received stitches. Ms. Metzinger, who could not be reached for comment, also was charged with assault on a peace officer. She was released Sunday morning on $1,500 bail. Photographs of the incident circulated over the weekend, some showing Ms. Metzinger with a bloody face, Officer Gordon pinning her to the ground. Cpl. Donna Hernandez, a Dallas police spokeswoman, said she couldn't comment on the officer's actions. She said an internal investigation could be sparked by a complaint from Ms. Metzinger or a request by the officer's supervisor. "Now seeing how this turned out," she said, "it very well may be looked into regardless."
codell there is NO WAY in hell that much blood ends up on the pavement from just "pavement burn" or whatever. there was excessive force used here. if the story the police are telling is 100% true (which is RARELY the case), then yes you can subdue her to the ground, throw on the cuffs and toss her in the police car. not beat the hell out of her while on the ground. i know she could have put up resistence but seriously look at the photos. that guy is twice her size. it shouldn't have taken that much force to subdue a woman around 100 pounds.
Just what I was thinking. The witnesses didn't see how this thing started. Maybe it was excessive force, but I can't take the word of someone who didn't see it happen.
Well seeing as how she had stiches, there is a good chance she was busted up when hitting the pavement in combination with her pavement burns. Rarely the case? Gee, doesn't sound like you have a grudge against law enforcement or anything. You really think its always that easy huh? Even the witness, who are on her side, said that didn't happen. Why are you? Everything I've read and saw seems to lead to the probability that her injuries occured when she was taken off her feet after attacking the officer. According to the report, she not only put up resistance, but tried to gouge his face/eye. She got taken down, per procedure (which doesn't differentiate between size, gender, etc.). Its not as easy as saying she was only 100 pounds. Read my story from earlier.
I agree with you Codell. I think this chick started fighting back. Once an officer feels the need to control the perp, they will do it by the best means possible. It doesn't matter whether it's a girl or a guy. Just watch any episode of COPS.
This just feels staged to me. Pick a fight with a cop . Have friend tape it. Media Attention for your Derby team? Priceless
Just remember guys, cops tend to exaggerate on circumstances like this to make their reactions seem more justified. If the police can come up with a single witness that saw her lunging for his eyes, I'll be satisfied. Otherwise, I think they're just trying to cover their own ass, which happens way too often these days. I'm going with the girls and her witnesses account, personally.
A drunk girl on rollerskates...I think it's more likely she busted up her own face accidentally by slipping than a cop ramming her head into the concrete. The cop should have probably taken off the skates initially. Let this be a lesson to us all, don't sip and skate. By the way, It's kind of telling how people take the side of the belligerent drunk over a cop.
