How did I oversimplify? These marches are in opposition to any immigration law that doesn't offer amnesty to illegals. What part did I miss?
Just because Mexicans do these jobs does it mean Americans can't? I really don't understand this. I mow my own yard btw. (well, I do eventually)
Go out to the street right now. If you can find me ONE, just ONE MEXICAN, ONE INDIAN, ONE ASIAN, or ONE ARAB dude asking for money on the street, post his picture here. Dude, they're here to work on the stuff locals don't want. How come I don't see a white dude working the construction? Oh, never mind, he's the one on the expensive WALKIE-TALKIE giving orders. Go to the unemployment office. Please tell me who is there. MEOWGI: I meant how come "real Americans" don't work in the places that I mentioned?
Then where are they and why aren't they even applying for these jobs? Your argument is seriously flawed.
I'm sorry, but you need to be more specific about these legal immigrants who want to do the same jobs the illegals do. I'm against this day off (especially if you work in a sh*tty taqueria or carniceria, seriously mostly mexicans eat there) but the govt is mostly looking for white collar people for legal immigration. These are the preferences: First Preference: Priority Workers including aliens with extraordinary abilities, outstanding professors and researchers, and certain multinational executives and managers. Second Preference: Members of Professions Holding Advanced Degrees or Persons of Exceptional Ability. Third Preference: Skilled Workers, professionals and other qualified workers. Fourth Preference : Certain special immigrants including those in religious vocations. Fifth Preference : Immigrant Investors creating employment
If you bothered to take your radio headphones off and stop listening to Dan Patrick for a minute, you would realize that the marches aren't for amnesty...they are for recognition of the working person. You would also realize that your Republican party's stance on this issue is guaranteeing them a huge loss in November 2006. Perhaps you can get President Bush to plan a few terrorism alerts for the summer to get people to be scared again.
Here's how you fix that: Go to that employer who hires illegals. Denounce him to the authorities. When the government cites them for employing illegals, YOU then apply for that same job. You heard me: THE SAME JOB outside, in the heat, or doing manual labor. I bet you won't. You wouldn't even take a job at McDonald's, so why would you take this one?
Come to Austin and you'll see plenty of non-whites asking for money. In fact, I'd be willing to bet the whites are outnumbered by the non-whites. More racism from you Swoly. I see PLENTY of white people working on construction sites everyday and not just in cushy jobs. But you keep seeing what you want to, amigo.
Since I don't live in Austin and I haven't seen what you're talking about, I need some proof. Can you please take some pictures for me or show me some statistics? Your willingness to bet is accepted; and you don't know the meaning of "amigo." Don't say that word again.
Where do I begin? I don't listen to talk radio because it's filled with too many blowhards. Don't let CNN fool you. The marches while timed to coincide with "May Day" are ALL ABOUT getting citizenship for illegals. Why else is it being framed in the "see how important we are to your economy" light? Yes, the Republican party's stance will cost them votes, maybe mine. You see, unlike a lot of people on this board, I don't throw my vote to a specific party every time.
I definitely think the burden falls on the employers. I really don't blame the illegals for doing what they can at all. If it was the same job for higher pay that was lowered due to the hiring of illegals more people might be willing do it. And I have had many white friends etc that have worked years mowing lawns etc.
"Amigo" - friend. I'm trying to keep some sense of niceness on this issue when many of the posts (including my own) have been rather fiery. If you're offended to be called my friend, that's cool. But don't think it's a racist thing. I'm not going to go take pictures of homeless people and beggars so I can prove a point on the internet. If you don't believe me, I'll accept that. If there's another way to prove it, I will.
So, are you ready for the massive economic change that would occur if we sent all 12-15 million illegal immigrants back to their home countries? Amnesty is not the answer, and neither is expulsion. There has got to be a middle ground, and we had better find it.....fast.
This I agree with. As a democracy, we will never deport 12 million people. However, granting them a reward for breaking our laws isn't the answer.
OK, OK, man (see how I didn't use "nazi" or "whitey"?). Niceness is cool, particularly when we haven't even met. This issue needs smart people contributing to the disagreement. I bet you'd make a good argument (even if you are on the KICK THEM OUT side). I know you know the translation, but did you know that even in Mexico, we don't use "amigo" to denote friendship among trusted buddies? It's a [can't find the word] word that has lost its meaning because Chevy Chase used it badly in a movie. Alls I am saying is that I need to see that you see past the manner in which these hard-working people came into The United States of America. If there were problems of them getting into trouble ALL THE TIME, or abusing a system that lends them a hand (welfare, medicare, etc), or being criminals, I say KICK THEM OUT. Let all the hard-working people make a case and promise they will NOT encourage illegal entry anymore. How's that for a solution?
What is your opinion on taking the 12 million illegal immigrants and placing them on a track towards citizenship? Give them a set of goals to achieve and a timetable and if they achieve the goals within the timetable, they become US Citizens. Thoughts?
The thing is, I'm not in favor of "kicking them out" because that will never happen. However, we can't just spit in the face of the millions of people who come into this country legally and wait 10+ years to do so by telling them that these people are getting the same rights and granted the same level of citizenship. I know a family who applied for a visa to immigrate to the US in 1986. After spending thousands of dollars on paperwork and flights to and from Manila from their island, they were granted their visa...in 1997. They demonstrated their love for this country AND its laws by spending the greater part of 10 years trying to get here. This isn't the only such story. I'm not in favor of shipping all illegals back to "where they came from" but I'm definitely not in favor of giving them anything close to citizenship as a reward when hard working individuals have already demonstrated a greater love of this country and the rule of law.
Well, I waited 20. How is that for a dumbass? Anyway, why even have to WAIT to get into this country? What's the idea behind that if the first "settlers" took the land just like THAT?
