Legal immigrants also benefit from illegal immigrants keeping inflation down and keeping the labor market competitive. Besides that though the paranoia regarding illegal immigration can easily fuel a greater paranoia regarding immigration in general. I've heard many people complain about illegal immigrants and also immigrants on things like H1B visas in the same breathe. Much of the complaints about immigrants, all, also seem be very nativist in general and in some cases borderline racists. As immigrants and first generation Americans like myself that concerns me.
This thread deserves a big . So what happens when the country survives tomorrow? Do we get to then say that the illegals aren't as big a part of the economy as they think?
I knew this was an appropriate place to have the thread, but I didn't ask for a discussion. I just asked who was not going to work tomorrow. I know it's up for debate, so go at it maybe in another thread... but, still, I knew many people would come in here and say something against this, and that's cool, no biggie. I am just wanting to point out that everyone at one point or another was an immigrant or came from an immigrant. To put this in perspective, let me tell you something: if you shop at, oh let's say HOME DEPOT, and you know that HOME DEPOT employs many immigrants (legal AND illegal). HOME DEPOT decides to fire some employees who had sick days and vacation days left who participated in this demonstration, ALL immigrants. When the MEXICAN, no, Hispanic, no, Immigrant coalitions and all others participating on this protest find out about it, they will tell everyone else and we will no longer go to shop at HOME DEPOT. Man, that's going to leave a mark.
Illegals need corporations that hire more than than corporations need defiant illegals. There's no real point in this but to shore up the other side's resolve.
Best commute I've had to work for a work day not situated around a holiday in years. I didn't realize how much immigrants were clogging up the road system. I say kick em out.
You obviously don't drive 610N through the Galleria as part of your commute! And yes...I am in the office today.
I'm at work today and if I owned a business and people didn't show up for work because of this lame ass protest, they wouldn't have to worry about coming in from then on either. I'd fire ever last one of them. This is all incredibly stupid. Illegal immigrants HURT the people who try to get here the right way. If they want to be here, do it the right way. If the govenment wants them there, figure out a better way to get them here legally. More than anything, STOP ACTING LIKE YOU HAVE A SAY IN MY COUNTRY. IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE HERE ILLEGALLY, THE LEAST YOU COULD DO IS STFU!
Everything's gonna be alright man, dont get your panties tangled. See I am also a hispanic at work today. Alot of truckers didnt show up today cause it's not gonna hurt their wallets(But I cant do that) . My support go's out to all the people sacrificing their jobs and trying to be heard.
It is a complicated issue. People who are here illegally are doing something wrong. They have violated the law. At the same time they are contributing to our community. They are building are homes, growing our food, manufacturing our goods, and often times paying taxes, and social security without ever filing for a refund or getting social security benefits. They are spending money in our stores. They are keeping many jobs for legal immigrants because companies that couldn't afford to be in business, can because of the work illegal immigrants do. So on one hand they are already living here, working here, and help making this nation go. It is understandable that they want to belong. On the other the folks who went about immigrating legally, want their own chance, and have had people break the rules and cut in front of them in line, so to speak. It is why I am torn on this issue, but I don't fault anyone who works as much as a lot of these undocumented workers do wanting to be counted, and be a part of what they make possible each and every day.
So you must be at work. Aren't you? Damn, that toilet is going to stink. Damn, that house you bought in the Woodlands is NOT going to be built. Damn, that I-10 freeway is not going to be finished on time. Damn, halfbreed's lawn is not going to get cut. Damn, Socorro is not going to take care of your child or home while you're at work... Sorry they're taking your jobs you want so much, Tyrone and Scott ... yeah, they're felons for taking that job you want at the corner ASKING FOR MONEY, Derrick and Chad.
Yes, I do work. I don't have a house in the Woodlands but I know plenty of LEGAL immigrants who would love to help build one. Once again, I know plenty of legal immigrants who have been denied such jobs as helping to build roads because it's easier to higher illegals. (Oh, and I-10 wouldn't have gotten finished on time, anyways). I mow my own lawn. We've never hired anyone to take care of anyone in our family. You ought to be ashamed of yourself and your views of your fellow Americans. There are PLENTY of Americans who cannot find work who WOULD do these jobs however your superiority complex with your ethnicity will not allow you to see that. You're just as bad as the people who feel whites are superior to other races.
