The interesting thing is that Hayes has a PER above 15. The only reason I left him out of the analysis was I concentrated on players that played 15 minutes per game or more. Hayes has a PER of 17 as it stands for the season. Here's the updated season PER at www.knickerblogger.net: http://www.knickerblogger.net/stats/2006/jh_Rockets.htm
I have been telling you guys all season and I have never waivered, that this team has two legit NBA starters and the rest are NBA bench players except Bowen and Moochie (when he was here) who are "church league" players. Every time I read a post that all this team needs is to get healthy to be a contender I laugh and laugh. That is absurd. This team has one of the least talented supporting casts in the league. When Sura, Barry (healthy and younger), James, and Padgett were here things were different. Now, this team has less talent than last year. TMac and Ming cannot, will not, will never drag this bunch far into the playoffs. They may not even make the playoffs if changes aren't made. I promise you, the "data" will continue to accumulate.
yet another proof that..... JUWAN SUCKS!!!! JVG has gone wild. Rockets need to get rid of this scrub. He shouldnt even be getting more than 5-10 mins per game but JVG insists he start.
Maybe they are trying to tank? Yao's stats look terrible so far. I hope he get to his average and then just foul out.
My main reason for mentioning Luther's transition to the pg position is based on your point regarding his defense against sg (which is the position he currently plays and the player on the other team he routinlely guards). I think a whole bunch of his defensive problems are based on the fact that he is not good at guarding players that are taller than him. My question to you: Who besides David Wesley in the NBA plays the 2 under 6ft3in and is an effective defender?
Luther is best defending opposing point guards. He's a lot better defensively at the point then the sieve Rafer. But he is not only too short but he is not long enough or big enough to guard shooting guards. Luther is improving right now though. I'd like to see him more at the point next year.
If we can draft a SG who can handle the PG duties on offense (eg. Ronnie Brewer), he and Luther can switch defensive assignments.
I'm writing papers all night, but I'd be interested to see the ratings of some players we've discussed aquiring after the season is over, Rashard, Mo Pete, etc. and even some of our former players, Padge, JJ, Mooch, Nachbar, K9, etc... Also, if these ratings are any good indicator of a teams balance or success, let's look at starting lineups for the top level teams like Detroit, SA, Phoenix, etc, and see what kind of player ratings we'd need to plug in, realistically and within the salary cap. Cross reference the rating for desired FAs and see what we have to work with. Then again if we hadn't lost the season due to injuries we wouldn't be having this thread in the first place... our starters would be our backups and much more suited to their roles. I feel like even having Sura all season would've been enough to sneak us in the back door. Then T-Mac would be ready to return about now and who knows...
I read some story saying that JVG will not leave next season because TMAC wants him to stay. TMAC/JVG are pair of gang and if TMAC doesn't like some players in the team, ROX will definitely kick the poor guy out, just like MJ and Anderson.
Also, Swift has a +7 rating when paired with Shift, but a -4 rating when paired with Juwan. Swift should start. Yao plays well with Head, too, at a +9 rating.
Well, I don't think JVG needed T-Mac to tell him to get rid of Anderson... Anybody with eyes could see that he was absolutely HORRIBLE at playing the game of basketball
Wait, why did T-Mac want Mike James gone if they were haning around this summer? I don't think T-Mac wanted the trade, did he? Oh and it was probably good that Anderson left, he wasn't doing anything anyways...
