RIP. He really made me appreciate the great films so much more with his insightful commentaries and analysis. So sudden to hear this after the news of the cancer recurrence...he will be missed.
Very, VERY sad news. I mean, I knew it was a matter of time but damnit **** I hate cancer! I have a very close relative who is days away from dying from this too. I still remember being absolutely hooked to the Siskell and Ebert show when a kid. When it was two thumbs up I got so excited, lol.
You beat me. I was waiting on the link to load and it never came through. Anyway, here are some Ebert quotes:
Fortunate he was able to develop an audience before the internet. Otherwise, nothing distinguished him from the million critics writing today.
All you need to do is watch his commentary on Citizen Kane to know his knowledge of film (and ability to convey that to a listener/reader) far exceed that of your average Internet critic. It's like a mini-film school.
RIP Ebert. Siskel and Ebert were two critics who could be just as entertaining as the movies they reviewed. His quotes about the Brown Bunny and Rob Schneider are some of the best. I had a colonoscopy once, and they let me watch it on TV. It was more entertaining than The Brown Bunny.
Meh. Won't miss him that much. His movie reviews didn't always match my thoughts and as he got older he became too political. I did like Siskel and Ebert back in the day though.
the balcony may be open in heaven, but sure seems like it was hell down here below. <iframe width="640" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rmnYCSwt2Js" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Roger Ebert layin the smack-down! <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/LSzP9YV3jbc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
dang RIP man! didn't he just blog yesterday? wonder what happened? i remember the old days watching Siskel and Ebert. i always watched that show. those two guys had some rough endings.
Que En Paz Descanse el Señor Ebert . I will miss "At The Movies" and began "missing it" after the first member of the two passed. Didn't like the guest critics. Don't know if SRSLY meaning words, or just misspelling. THIS IS HILARIOUS  : <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/OkwVz_jK3gA?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I agree with Gene. EDIT: Sorry, Basso... but... this one is longer that's what SHE said...
The guy was a huge influence on me growing up. I got a book containing a lot his reviews as a present when I was a teenager, and it really helped me discover a lot of movies I otherwise never would have sought out. Really helped me respect art in general, not just movies. RIP
