don't worry rim, I'd called him on it before too... I'm just trying to draw more attention to it. ------------------ girl you looks good won't you mock that draft up?!
I still think he is better on ignore mode, but people will not play along. ------------------ "You sanctimonious philistines, who scoff at me!"
But some people are actually defending him...strange indeed. ------------------ "You sanctimonious philistines, who scoff at me!"
I just spent some time on that newsmax site. HAHAHAHAHAHA! I don't know why Jimbo didn't include the link earlier... it has to be his ((little brain)child). "Toilet Testers Strive To Come Out #2". HAHAHAHHAHA. Jimbo, theonion is actually creative, and not just a conspiracy ridden conservative trashzine. Why don't you just read their stuff? ------------------ girl you looks good won't you mock that draft up?!
Puedlfor, Achebe, Rimbaud et al At the CNN site, a search on Roger Clinton yielded a few articles about his testimony being delayed and they were dated late April. http://cnn.com/2001/LAW/04/27/roger.clinton.pardons.02/index.html The Torricelli investigation is supposed to end up with the same prosecutor as the Pardons case and that might float Roger's story back to the top at the major news organizations. Hmmm... Beto is a nickname for 'Roberto', as he's admitted. Roberto = Robert = Bob. Lluvioso means 'rainy'. Bob Rainey. Wow. I am so smart! I am so smart! S-M-R-T! I mean S-M-A-R-T! I'm looking forward to Swirve.com's review of 'When Toddlers Are Sexually Assaulted'. Should be an interesting read. I hope it delves into the death of sarcastic hyperbole-- I wasn't aware it was forbidden on these boards but apparently that's the case. There's a scene in Scrooged that this reminds me of... Ghost of Christmas Past: "Face it, Frank, there are garden slugs that got more outta life than you!" Frank Cross (rolling his eyes): "Oh...pfft-- name one!" Question for the room: is the Village Voice a reputable source? How about Mother Jones? Is it only right-wing fringe sources that can be casually dismissed? I'm especially hoping Achebe will address this one since he always seems to make a point of dismissing any politically conservative source out of hand. ------------------ "It's a funny thing, 'friends' You got beginnings and you got ends I guess I'll see you when we're ashes again-- Chris Robinson [This message has been edited by BrianKagy (edited June 07, 2001).]

I can't speak for Danilo, but you've got one right. ------------------ www.swirve.com "Pre-born, you're fine, pre-school, you're f*****."-George Carlin
One, rimbaud, that's an op-ed piece-- it's not a news article, so I don't see what it has to do with the validity of Newsmax's reporting. Two, do you think the writer is serious? Or do you supposed his column is a hackneyed attempt at parody? Be honest.
I think the writer was serious. ------------------ www.swirve.com "Pre-born, you're fine, pre-school, you're f*****."-George Carlin
BK, I don't know how Village Voice antes up, because I don't read it. I also have to admit that I haven't read Mother Jones in 3 or 4 years. As an aside, I was probably more intelligent 4 years ago, since I had just graduated the year before. Nowadays w/ my developed "conservative intuition" (which is interestingly correllated w/ a decrease in spelling ability) either of those magazines might seem a bit liberal. But on a case by case basis, what exactly have I discounted BK? The Drudge Report? Is that a conservative internet magazine? I just thought it was bs like bskball and TRG, I didn't think that he was linked to one party or the other... is he conservative? As far as newsmax, you can find articles rather easily on that site that are crazy-psycho conservative mumbo jumbo articles. Hell, I didn't even know that some of these people had 'access to the internet': HAHAHAHAHA!!! BK, unfortunately I will be unable to take this site seriously. Everything in Jimbo's post might be true for all I know... I'd just rather see it emerge out of the respectable core media (cnn, msnbc, abcnews, etc.). Given Col. Jimbo Lunev's past, you'll of course pardon me if I laugh at everything he writes. ------------------ girl you looks good won't you mock that draft up?!
BK, Never edit my posts!!! Seriously, I thought it worked... Anyway, yes, I do think the person was being serious. I think there was sarcasm involved, but it was still meant to make serious points. I realize it was op-ed, but it is still a little disturbing when compounded with other things on that sight... Such as, "racial profiling will one day save your life" "Clinton, Tony Blair, and Daschle are socialists" "Hitler is alive and well and building a presidential library in Arkansas. " As I have said before, I am no fan of Clinton, but I think any "news" organization that throws out such ridiculous statements should not be taken seriously. Come on! Clinton is Hitler? And a socialist? Those are just hot words and the ultimate insult for a conservative to give a "liberal." ------------------ "You sanctimonious philistines, who scoff at me!"
More fun articles from newsmax.com! I had no IDEA that environmentalists were the next communists (or any other group to be falsely accused by the conservative right). "White House 'Global Warming' Backers Put Heat on Bush Wes Vernon Thursday, June 7, 2001 "WASHINGTON - White House insiders are working hard to undermine President Bush's rejection of the anti-American Kyoto climate treaty, says a leading critic of the theory of global warming." Anti-American? How about "environmentally friendly." That's one of my favorite parts. ""What’s more, warned Dr. S. Fred Singer in a breakfast meeting Wednesday, if you like energy shortages and rolling blackouts in California, you will love the enforced cuts in energy use that the Kyoto Protocol would require." Of course, the eastern seaboard being underwater would be no problem at all! "Just hours before the scheduled release of a "global warming" report by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), Singer, a respected scientist who heads the Science and Environmental Policy project, told NewsMax.com after his speech that advocates of the Kyoto treaty, which President Bush and the U.S. Senate have rejected, are to be found in the White House Council on Environmental Quality. However, he preferred not to name them." Whaa...? Where do we start? The research of this "respected" scientist is FUNDED BY THE OIL INDUSTRY! There's a consensus that global warmin gis real. "It has already been known, as reported by NewsMax.com, that EPA Administrator Christie Whitman, egged on by holdover bureaucrats from the Clinton administration in her agency, has been a firm backer of the treaty. In fact, some Bush loyalists at the White House have privately nicknamed her "Brownie,” after her predecessor, Carol Browner, a Clinton appointee." Bush LOYALISTS? Goodness, the absurdity never ends. I feel sorry for Whitman - Bush has continually undercut her. "But this is the first public mention of anyone within the White House itself trying to undercut the president on this issue." Gee... actual debate in the whitehouse? Or are they TRAITORS!?!?! Let's have an ENVIRONMENTALIST PURGE!!!!! "As for the panel participating in the NAS study slated for widespread publicity, Singer said it was heavily tilted toward accepting the "bad science” on global warming. Only one out of 11 panelists is a skeptic of global warming, he said. He hoped that one lone voice would be heard loud and clear." Funded by the oil industry... "Singer, a former director of the U.S. Weather Satellite Service, said the European nations leaning on the U.S. to ratify the Kyoto pact were being hypocritical because they themselves had not signed it. NewsMax.com reported Wednesday that those same nations had failed to push a Europe-wide energy tax to meet the Kyoto requirements. In Europe, he said, only Romania has signed the treaty, along with a few Third World countries that would be exempt from its tough provisions." They'll sign it next month, idiot. "Bush has two things going for him if he is to stick to his opposition to the economy-crippling treaty, Singer said. 1. The political advisers around the president know the Kyoto Treaty requiring a cutback of emissions to 10 percent below 1990 levels, despite the population growth, would be a nonstarter with the public if it were ever enforced. 2. The new conservative government of Italy has also rejected the Kyoto treaty. Noting that there will be meetings in Europe this month and next where "real decisions” will be made on the issue, Singer suggested that perhaps this was the time for the new leadership of that government to say to Bush, as Britain's Margaret Thatcher said to his father during the Gulf War, that this is "no time to go wobbly.” International inspectors who would be required to enforce the treaty provisions would be unelected and accountable to no one, he warned." No time to go wobbly? What the heck? And I hate to tell him, but the Clean Air act didn't cripple the economy, and htat cut emissions as well. It's necessary. Whoo! Crazy stuff. ------------------ A few years back on the Senate floor... Phil Gramm: "If Democrats could, they'd tax the air we breathe." Good job Haven. First you shoot the messenger, then you change the subject. If you want to read other articles about Roger Clinton, CLM, his 30 million dollar bank account, and the selling of pardons, go to the L.A. Times and the Wall Street Journal (John Fund). BTW, global warming is a theory, based on 100 year trends. Ice Ages have lasted for thousands of years, but don't let that fact interfere with your emotional thought process. In the 70's, scientists were worried about Global Cooling. LOL, the only trend that I see is that scientists can't make up their minds. ------------------ I hate rice and beans!
Bela: If you have an article from the NYtimes, post it please. If not, shut up. I posted that to show further the amusing nature of your source. Global warming: the theory is sound, and there's a strong correllation between emissions and heat. It's the theory that's important, more than the span of time that evidences it. It's impossible to be certain about global warming. But we can say that it's LIKELY to be true. And the possible ramifications are to significant to not act as if it IS true. The scientific consensus is really overwhelming. Until you have non-oil scientists arguing against global warming, I'm going to be persuaded. ------------------ A few years back on the Senate floor... Actually Jimbo, we understand the processes pretty well now... and of course that knowledge will only get better. People that understand climatology and paleoclimatology don't discount the fact that the Earth changes in its own cycles as well... they're just arguing that self inflicted harm is pretty stupid. We'll never be able to harness the CO2 in the oceans, we'll never be able to change the Milankovitch cycles... but that doesn't mean **** it, may as well start smoking. The species is what's important. Our progeny are the things that we should pay the most attention to. Americans like to think they'll win by buying alot of things on credit, and then dying before they'll ever pay it off. Amassing that sort of debt against the environment will only make sure that our species dies on this rock. I happen to like humanity, so I tend to think that things that adversely affect our future (meteors, 15m+ sea level change) are bad. ------------------ girl you looks good won't you mock that draft up?! So Achebe, you are right about Global Warming because your heart is true and you care "for the children"? Wait...let me wipe the tear away from my eye before I go on. OK, I feel better now. There is just as much science that debunks the Theory of Global Warming as is supportive. The fact is that the Kyoto treaty will cripple the United States' economy (avg. household income will drop $2500), while third world countries can manufacture to their heart's content without the same restrictions. The Global Warming debate is more about political power and economics than about Science. The question you should ask yourself is- who benefits economically? The answer is clearly 2nd and 3rd world countries who need these one-sided restrictions to compete. This is nothing more than a redistribution of wealth. Haven should love this, because the Kyoto Treaty is being manufactured by the socialists who failed to better the world in their last attempt. Emotional thinking Americans need to step back and educate themselves about the economic ramifications of the Kyoto Treaty, and then balance that with a balanced scientific view of the world's health. ------------------ I hate rice and beans!
