Robertson was consistent? His ERA was over 5 while Redding was 15th in the league at 3.68. Robertson was lucky to have the 2nd highest run support in the league. His ERA by month was - 7.99, 4.94, 3.58, 3.18, 6.83, 4.63. On a month to month basis, the Astros never knew what they would get out of Robertson. Meanwhile, Redding was - 3.29, 3.41, 5.34, 3.51, 3.82, 2.67. It certainly wasn't Redding's fault he was 10-14.
It's great to raid the pitching staff of the Yankees. This has made my day. Astros stealing from the Yankees Rockets well you know about that one... Texans - nah, I guess we don't need anyone from the Giants (but we do have a pair of good DBs from the Jets) So far it's not too bad of a poaching job off the NY teams in my opinion. Gotta love it - does anyone know if the Astros play the Yankees at all in the regular season. I wouldn't think so since they just played last year.
Good news. Now the key to next year is getting Oswalt and Miller to stay healthy. If they do, then the 2004 squad has a chance to win Houston's first ever postseason series. Now the only thing left to do is get rid of that bum, Craig Biggio, and replace him with a proper CF.
Logic noted. Can't explain why I feel the way I do. Started watching the Astros intently in 2001, when Redding only started a few games. And I have always felt that Robertson would be a much better pitcher working with Ausmus, who has great rapport with younger pitchers.
Did you not see the gutless & terrified JRob nearly piss himself while on the mound against the Brewers in that season-ending loss? Only way he's in the rotation is if 2 or more starters get hurt.
i believe the Yankees come to Houston next year...which brings up a George Costanza line I'll leave for Codell!
given your track record on Astros predictions, recently, I would be CONCERNED if you picked them to win this season! whew...big sign of relief!
The Yankees won't be here until 2006. They play the AL West this year and the AL Central in 2005. Unfortunately, Clemens will ctually be long gone by that time.
Totally agree. Redding was a way better pitcher than JRob, Rob just got more run support. BUT, if Carlos Hernandez is rehabbed and that curve ball bites like it did two years ago, I'd make him the 5th starter, bring Redding out of the pen, and trade JRob + anyone for a speedy center fielder/leadoff type guy. Redding would be nasty coming out of the pen because he throws in the 94-95 range while starting, if he is only going to throw an inning or two, I bet he can get it up to around 96-97. His curve is good, and his slider isn't bad either. I like him coming out of the bullpen, so I'd like to have someone else be the 5th starter. Back to the thread title, HOW FRIGGIN COOL IS IT THAT ROGER CLEMENS IS AN ASTRO???? I am so pumped about the season, I wish it were here now. What do y'all think the rotation will be for the opening series vs. the Giants? Will Roger get the nod for opening day, or will Roy? I think it should go Roy, Andy, then Roger. MUST GET TICKETS!!!!
Hmmmmm. Start an Andy Pettitte sticky thread. Astros sign him. Start a Rogers Clemens sticky thread. Astros sign him. Can we get an A-Rod sticky thread, please?
