hey is there a good astros fan page out there? man i'd go nuts if clemens play. i can believe that too old nonsense. he's still a very good effective pitcher.
MSNBC just reported that the Astros have offered Clemens a one year deal. I don't know the details yet. I hope he accepts it.
just listened to Dan Patrick show on 610.....same guy who broke the news about Andy coming to astros was on and he said Clemens has been working out every day and from his same sources hes going to play next year.....Sounds like the deals almost complete....
Astros trying to lure ace out of retirement with 1-year deal- Updated: 4:59 p.m. ET Jan. 09, 2004It doesn't look like Roger Clemens' retirement is going to last very long. The New York Post reported on Friday that Clemens is telling his friends he plans to sign a one-year, $4 million contract with the Houston Astros. advertisement According to the newspaper, Astros general manager Gerry Hunsicker caught off guard when told of the news. "Only Roger knows the answer to that question. I have not [heard the news]," Hunsicker told The Post. "It certainly sounds like he's seriously considering it," Hunsicker said. "I know [Andy] Pettitte is working on him pretty good. Randy Hendricks, Clemens agent, told the Post in an e-mail that the report was speculative and no decision had been reached as of last night. The Houston Chronicle reported that Clemens had been offered a one-year deal, but did not speculate on whether he would accept it. "(Astros owner) Drayton (McLane) has made it clear he wants to sign Roger, and we have discussed financial parameters," Hendricks told the Chronicle. "The issue is not whether Drayton will make an offer. Rather, it is whether Roger will play." The addition of Clemens, 41, could give the Astros a potent rotation that would also include Andy Pettitte, a good friend of Clemens', Roy Oswalt and Wade Miller. The Chronicle reported that McLane is willing to raise payroll to sign Clemens, even though the team lost $15 million last season. The signing of Pettitte already provided a huge boost in ticket sales, according to the paper, requiring the ticket office to actually hire two more employees. Clemens was 17-9 with a 3.91 ERA last season with the Yankees. On Thursday, the Chronicle reported that Clemens would decide later this month whether he would come out of retirement. "Obviously, it's really hard to see the good is not going to outweigh the bad right now. But my concerns are still the same," Clemens told Newsday. "I haven't ruled it out," he said. "Andy has been over here for a week working on me, my agent has been over here for a week. We're still talking about it." © 2003 NBC Sports.com
It's gonna be a sweet season if we get the Rocket to join the team. Man. I haven't been this pumped up during the Astros's offseason in so long.
Looking very nice! Astros Rotation - - Andy Pettite ( I read somewhere Roy said he should be the opening day starter, that he deserved it.) - Roy Oswalt - Roger Clemens - Wade Miller - Tim Redding Looks fantastic!
For what it's worth, Ch. 39 on their 9:30 news reported that Clemens has told friends he will accept the 1 yr. 4 million dollar deal.
That would be sweet! If we could only find a sucker for Hidalgo, we could put that $12 mil towards a bad-a$$ like Vlad Guerrero! OK, so I'm dreaming, but how many of you would have predicted that Uncle Drayton would sign Andy Pettite & Roger Clemens this off-season?
I can't wait until its official... I can't wait to see this guy in an astros uni. Any word on what his or pettitte's new number will be?
just to add to the earlier post on espn insider (mlb) this also confirms the near-deal shame we have to wait a possible week for a yes Jan. 9 - Roger Clemens is telling friends he plans to sign a one-year, $4 million contract with the Astros, according to the New York Post. Astros' GM Gerry Hunsicker said Andy Pettite is encouraging Clemens to sign. Hunsicker expects a decision to be made this month.
I gotta say...even though I hate Roger Clemens, I'm pretty damn excited about the Astros rotation this coming season.
