Contrary to some people's thinking, the feds are more than capable of pursuing a lot of different things at once. You could similarly say serial murderers are more important than, say, armed robbers or white collar criminals, so why do police put any resources into stopped armed robbers and white collar crimes?

Violent crime could also all be considered thousands of times more important than a guy who lied to congress about cheating in baseball.

Back in college I took a summer Lit class with Clemens: Sports in Literature. I only took it because I wanted to have a fun summer in Austin and Peter Gent was going to give a guest lecture.

Clemens sat in the back of the room with 3 of his baseball buddies and just dipped and spit the whole time. I was amazed at how dumb they were (way dumber than football players I thought). And Clemens seemed to be the dumbest, though he was the leader. And they were all arrogant. And disrespectful towards the Prof and some of the other guests.

Clemens: Dumb and arrogant and disrespectful back then. Dumb and arrogant and disrespectful now. Maybe just dumb when he goes to prison.

(I can't convey with any accuracy how really dumb I thought he was.)

Anyone who goes out of his way and lies to Congress deserves to get nailed to the wall. Rogeroid got what he asked for and impaled himself for all to see. The guy deserves it. How stupid and ignorant can a person be. He had everything to lose, and lost.

He "mis-remembered" to use common sense. I enjoy watching people who think they are above the law get nailed by the law.

Good riddance. Shouldn't they have nailed Bonds by now too?

Can't we just plant some drugs in his house or get him on a robbery charge like OJ? eh? eh?

This morning's Daily News is saying he's facing a possible sentence of 30 years.

The guy on ESPN the other day I believe said 3-6 months is what is likely if he gets convicted on all charges.

The Bonds trial starts in March.

I would agree with you if Clemens was being forced to cover the costs of his incarceration. But given that it costs something like $30k per year to keep someone in prison, I'd prefer that prison sentences only be handed out to people that are actually threats to society, rather than douchey liars.

Just out of curiosity, what penalty do you think there should be for knowingly lying to congress?

I'm inclined to agree. Clemens is an asshat of the first order who deserves to be prosecuted I think that prison though might be a bit excessive when a heavy fine, community service and probation would do.

See rocketsjudoka's post. I think it would be much better for society if we took some money off of his hands and made him give something back rather than use tax dollars to keep him in prison.
