One of my favorite radio shows did a bit one time where they went to the X-Games and ask the guys that do all of the motorcycle racing and flips/tricks if they rode their motorcycles on the highways. EVERY SINGLE GUY except for one said no, and you are an absolute moron if you ride a motorcycle on the highway. I thought that was pretty funny considering it was coming from guys who do 360 reverse flips in midair on motorcycles for a job....
Perhaps he was invisible. Maybe that's why the car hit him. The driver looked up and saw a motorcycle driving itself and said, "Holy ****! A phantam cycle! I saw Ghostbusters, Phantacycle, and I won't let you call down Zool's wrath on my city! YARGGGHHHHHH" Seems pretty viable to me.
He's also an idiot for riding a motorcycle during his playing career. With that said, I hope he's alright.
i don't really see why there's such a big ruckus about motorcycle riding. there's way more automobile accidents than there are motorcycling. the cycling accidents just seem more pronounced b/c the rider is sent flying out of his ride. sure, you're more likely to survive an auto accident b/c of that fact, but it would seem you're more prone to be in accident just being in a car.
Yeah, but how many more cars are there on the road than there are motorcycles? It's probably like a 100 to 1 ratio...maybe more.
it's an activity that severly heightens your risk of serious physical injury. that's all the team signing the contract cares about. if we're gonna pay you this much money...you agree not to take risks that heighten your chance of very serious physical injury.
I hope he's okay too. But the guy was already pretty ugly so at least he doesn't have to worry about the accident messing up his good looks.
so you wouldn't date him? what if let you ride on the back. sorry dude I just think its kind of gay commenting on another guy's looks. not that there's anything wrong with that.
I don't think it's gay calling another guy ugly. I think it's gay calling another guy good looking. Man law?
Riding without a helmet on the highway is crazy. I rode everyday for a year and a half and I only rode without a helmet maybe a dozen times. Hope Ben is alright.
Wears a helmet while playing football, but not while riding a motorcycle? Hope it isn't too bad though..
Austin70 has a weird sense of humor. he critizes a few of us for making jokes in the "What the hell is wrong with people" thread about the "dryer" baby, yet he's right at home at cracking a funny here...which by way, i chuckled at.
I think you just answered your own question. In cars, if you're wearing your seatbelt, you're probably not even going to sustain any serious injuries even in a bad accident as long as you aren't crushed inside the car. Motorcycles are totally different. Even a small accident can really eff you up.
I've been thinking about getting one for months. Not for everyday transport, just for fun. I rode one around northern vietnam for a bit last year for the first time and had a blast. Does anybody here have any views/opinions on what a rank amateur should consider beforehand? I tend to think if I buy a bike and end up not liking it, it's such a small investment relative to a car that I can just eat the loss/sell it and not really care. The only thing that scares me is the possible fatality angle. That's not cool.
the Triumph Bonneville is a great beginner bike. the main problem, IMO, w/motorcycles (i have a bonnie-black & a Ducati sport1000) is other drivers. Most drivers are not aware of their surroundings & will easily overlook a biker..... especially @ intersections! I rarely go more than 15 seconds w/out checking my rearview & i constantly notice others who, it seems, NEVER check the traffic....... unless they are shifting lanes (usually accompanied w/ braking). "l'enfer, c'est les autres" - Jean Paul Sartre. (Hell is other people)
Just refreshed that article: "According to a police source, Roethlisberger suffered a broken jaw, broke his left sinus cavity, suffered a 9-inch laceration to the back of his head, lost many teeth and has severe injuries to his knees from hitting the pavement. A plastic surgeon has been called in, the source said." Sounds like after the rehab, the only career threatening of all that might be whatever damage he did to his knees. Thankfully, he has never been a very mobile QB.
Same here. Everyone at work said I should get an 1100 Cruiser. I was thinking of buying a used Yamaha Roadstar. I do plan on taking the class first and will get plenty of short distance practice.
