A child that was brought to term and born. This is a tragedy, to be sure, and one that should be mourned. If I knew the family, I would send them my condolences for their (very real) loss.
i'm made up of organs...which are made up of tissue...which are nothing more than masses of cells. my brain function is nothing more than a result of my mass of cells. my heart beat is nothing more than a product of my mass of cells.
And you're not? You won't budge any more than I will, despite the utter lack of logic, science, or even spiritual arguments to bolster your side.
Are YOU reading your words??? You are saying that it is reasonable to have an annual remembrance for a miscarried fetus.
the first 12 weeks: Conception: The father's sperm penetrates mother's egg cell. Genetic instructions from both parents interact to begin a new and unique individual - no bigger than a grain of sugar. 1st day: The first cell divides into two, the two into four, and so on. 5-9 days: The new individual burrows into the wall of the womb. 14 days: Mother's menstrual period is suppressed by a hormone produced by her child. 18 days: Heart is forming. Soon eyes start to develop. 20 days: Foundations of brain, spinal cord and nervous system are laid. 24 days: Heart begins to beat. 28 days: Muscles are developing along the future spine. Arms and legs are budding. 30 days: Child has grown 10,000 times to 6-7 mm (1/4") long. Brain has human proportions. Blood flows in veins (but stays separate from mother's blood). 35 days: Pituitary gland in brain is forming. Mouth, ears and nose are taking shape. 40 days: Heart's energy output is 20percent of adult's. 42 days: Skeleton is formed. Brain coordinates movement of muscles and organs. Reflex responses have begun. Penis is forming in boys. (Mother misses second period.) 43 days: Brain waves can be recorded. 45 days: Spontaneous movements have begun. Buds of milk teeth have appeared. 7 weeks: Lips are sensitive to touch. Ears may resemble family pattern. 8 weeks: Child is well proportioned. Now a small scale baby, 3cm (1 1/8") and weighing a gram (1/30th oz.) Every organ is present. Heart beats sturdily. Stomach produces digestive juices. Liver makes blood cells. Kidneys begin to function. Taste buds are forming. 8 1/2 weeks: Fingerprints are being engraved. Eyelids and palms of hands are sensitive to touch. 9 weeks: Child will bend fingers around an object placed in the palm. Thumb sucking occurs. Fingernails are now forming. 10 weeks: Body is sensitive to touch. Child squints, swallows, puckers up brow and frowns. 11 weeks: Baby urinates, makes complex facial expressions - even smiles. 12 weeks: Vigorous activity shows distinct individuality. Child can kick, turn feet, curl and fan toes, make a fist, move thumbs, bend wrists, turn head, open mouth and press lips tightly together. Breathing is practiced.
My OB/GYN gave me a very different timeline. It is good to see that the anti abortion crowd will simply make up "evidence" to use.
spiritual arguments??? do you want them??? how about the book of Psalms? Psalm 22 10 From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God. But I suppose you're going to tell me something about this verse is inapplicable. It's fun to pick and choose what we don't like.
post it! let's read it. i'm not making up anything. post whatever you have.... or don't post it...and just pretend you have something that says something different...and then call me a liar. that's a better strategy.
here's another Week 2 Conception is the moment at which the sperm penetrates the ovum. Once fertilized it is called a zygote, until it reaches the uterus 3-4 days later. Week 4 The embryo may float freely in the uterus for about 48 hours before implanting. Upon implantation, complex connections between the mother and embryo develop to form the placenta. Week 6 The embryo is about 1/5 of an inch in length. A primitive heart is beating. Head, mouth, liver, and intestines begin to take shape. Week 10 The embryo is now about 1 inch in length. Facial features, limbs, hands feet fingers and toes become apparent. The nervous system is responsive and many of the internal organs begin to function.
That one works for me! From BIRTH is what the verse says. Not from conception, not from sexual relations, not from marriage. From BIRTH.
here's one from a website that has nothing to do with abortion..it's merely a site for women who want more information on childbirth. http://mn.essortment.com/womb_nnn.htm A month after conception, the embryo has already formed most of it’s vital organ systems. It has a heart, a digestive tract, kidneys and a blood stream. The circulatory systems of mother and child are, then, separate.
At 12 weeks, mine was 23 mm, the size and shape of a bean, and did not have a single appendige. The most that it resembled a human was that it had a heartbeat. We saw it on ultrasound, not in a book.
The information that MadMax posted is consistent with what I have learned (my wife is 30 weeks pregnant). For a while, she was going to the OB every week because she was high risk. That timeline seems dead on.
at 12 weeks there was no appendage? that's not good. not that having an appendage is a necessary sign of life. a heartbeat is, though. so is a closed and separate circulatory system.
And once you spring from your mothers womb, you are born. The passage you used was pretty specific when it said at birth.
At 12 weeks, our baby had all its appendages. Here is a link to a 12 week ultrasound: http://www.tntluoma.com/ethan/ultrasound1/ Note: This is not an ultrasound of our baby, but looks almost exactly the same that ours did at 12 weeks. This seems to be the norm.
I didn't say it was a "miscarriage." I said they lost a chld late. Her name was Victoria Louise and she strangled on her umbilical cord in the eighth month. My sister-in-law had to deliver her stillborn. But she wasn't a child according to your definitions: she was not birthed yet; she was dependent on her mother's body. Did I miss any? Who are you to say than a woman can't grieve for a miscarriage? My wife has a friend who has been trying to get pregnant for about 10 years. She got pregnant just this past November and lost the baby in April. Would you like to tell her just to get over it? <b>She would rip your eyes out.</b>
