I'd love to get Roy because he seems like a tough competitor and has the whole package. However I would think that he will be taken before we pick.
I've watched him play plenty of times and I like what I see. You may see something else but what I see is a remarkable athlete with tremendous defensive potential and upside that's improved every year he's played.
I don't think you can be "just plain wrong" with a mock draft. Since they are just predictions and opinions, no one can be completely right or completely wrong. All you have to do is look at nbadraftexpress.com's 2005 mock draft. They had Gerald Green going at #5 to the Bobcats, he ended up going #18! Charlie V. was projected at #18 and went #7. Roko-Leni Ukic was predicted to go #16 and ended up falling all the way to #41!! I agree that nbadraft.net isn't the best site to go to, but like the websites I provided, draftexpress and espn insider is just a bunch of guesses and opinions.
Draftexpress actually analyzes college players after every game and have legit sources. The mock itself is a bunch of guesses and opinions, but their player profiles are top notch.
my point is that draft express and insider do actual scouting. mocks aren't their forte, it's the scouting reports. carney's scouting report doesn't read like someone who's going to be gone when the rockets pick. espn insider said his stock has gone down considerably in the eyes of nba scouts.
my #1 choice is brandon roy. if we don't get him or we drop to like 13th pick, we will take redick then. There is also a good chance we will take a good PF. Remember, Amare was only a 9th pick.
Did you read the Competitive tab? The guy has the size, shot, and athleticism to be great. I'd take him way over a guy like Reddick, who was just as much of a question mark as Carney.
reminds me a lot of eddie jones when he came into the league. long and athletic, although a little thin.
Reminds me of a young McGrady. Except without McGrady's ability to create his shot. That's pretty much unrivaled.
there isn't a competitive tab. and course he's a better prospect than reddick. based on what he's shown i think carney is in the 12-16 range. i can't see an inconsistent college senior being worthy of a top 8 pick. as for reddick i wish he wasn't overrated so that the rockets could draft him where his talent warrants, at the top of the 2nd round. and he's nothing like mcgrady (skillset or ability). at 21 going on 22 (like carney is now), t-mac was doing big things in the nba.
I don't think you can go wrong with Roy or Carney. Both of them have pretty good range, which is the first thing that we need. Roy is just a better overall player with a high bball IQ, but he doesn't have atheletism of Carney. If you want a player that can turn out to be Richard Jefferson or as bad as Qyntel Woods, then you select Carney. But if you want a hard nosed 2nd/3rd option on your team that does everything the right way, then you have to get Roy. I see Roy as a Bobby Simmons with a better shot and I would definitely pick Roy over Carney.
you can't go wrong with roy, but you can go wrong with carney. he's soft, inconsistent, weak handles, etc. ect. he's a boon or bust player. he's a better version of james white. roy is actually pretty safe.
just for a good laugh, when i first saw the thread, i glanced it and thought it said RODNEY MCCRAY....and I was thinking oh nooooo....not again..... lol
You can't go wrong w/ Roy? When has a player ever been bust-proof? Well, with what you guys are saying, Roy won't be around when we pick. At our pick (#10-#14), I think Carney would definitely be worth the pick. He's got the athleticism, the size, and a good enough shooter.
inconsistent below average ball handling skill for playing SG quetionable basketball IQ could be a very good player if he continues to improve. But it's a BIG if and could take up to a few seasons.
