No, we're not aiming for a title. Why would we want to win? Winning a title is never a goal of any sports team.
Leave him alone, he's a junior member. I was one once. Timm, just think chemistry of which, Rodman has zero. Can we say cancer of the team.
Well, at least he could go into the opposition's locker room and hose them down with an exitguisher before they take the floor. Or maybe the Rocks could schedule a few more afternoon games so 'Rodzilla' could wrestle at night. Steve could improve his marketibility by being a villian in one of Dennis' HORRIBLE 'movies'. Actually, I'm proud to say that the Rocks are the only team in the state to not issue Dennis a jersey,...yet. Let's keep the streak alive! (Not meant to dis you, timm, but just to express how much I like to see 'Retired' at the end of Rodman's name in the NBA Directory.)
I like the idea of bringing back Sir Charles. I mentioned this in another thread. Not only would he provide a starting quality PF, he would be cheap, he is a great influence on young players(look how he helped Francis, KT, and Mobes), and he doesn't mind coming off of the bench. Best of all, he is the one Rocket that brings media attention to Houston, and not by being a big, cross-dressing freak like Rodman.
Thank you all guys.......who responded (because they care one way or the other) or those who only read (and not responded)...because I know Rodman can evict that kind of response!! I am glad that many chose to move the discussion out of the newbie land and stated why they agree or disagree. I like this BBS precisely becasue of the fact thatt there are usually two sides of the arguement here......and thats why GOD BLESS AMERICA..... WHY RODMAN..........because what he does for the different folks.... TO the Team : Rebounds and attitude (IT will make sure that some freaking guard is not leading the team in either category) TO Houston : Media weight (even its for wrong reasons...now atleast they will talk about us!!! ) To Les : Bring a lot more asses to the Compaq (or HP) seats ( and well probably cheapest rebounder!, and probably you dont have to guarantee the season length too!!) To the PAYING FAN : GUanranteed entertainment (even if its not basketball) Above ALL : HIS RECORD...Look at the record ROdman has delivered.......ALL the teams he has played has either won championships (gosh he has five rings!!!) or they significantly improved after his interference (left!!). Fakers won two titles within two seasons of this guy going away....and Mavs have actiually won a playoff series since..also within two seasons!! Well it might be a stretch but even Spurs won a championship behind MR Rodman. Having said all of this, I think ROckets would not want (my belief) to go after Rodman because we always like nice guys. Brining nice guys is important...if so....folks dont grumble too often that we only PLAY well but have a L in our stats column. I think he will create chemistry issues......(BTW, from my role as management consultant....yes.....gosh..how can a newbei be that..I repeatedly learn that you KEEP chemistry when you beleive you have the talent and they can improve RESULTS by getting to KNOW each other better (role clarity, direction, plays, understanding etc..)...BUT you must CHOOSE to create delibrate TURBULANCE when you think your current TEAM needs a SHAKE-UP) That's my thought here.......do we beleive that we are close to finding the right mix, then we should NOT disturb the team mix, if NOT there's NO BETTER TIME!!! PS : Well I am sorry I couldn't respond earlier (I was away at hospital taking care of my daughter (hint for folks those folks who said junior = teenager, but then...that might be another thread
How very high school of ya', Doc. But, on the other hand, you did go ahead and comment on the point... Well that's just it, I'm not exactly sure Rodman is still at that top level any more. If he was, sure, then that could overshadow his off the court personality. But I think one has outdistanced the other by now. He hasn't become any younger. And somehow, I don't really think he'd take the time to teach anyone. I could be wrong about that, but still...
So we all forget that Rodman did anything and everything asked/needed of/from him in detroit and Chicago, but remember Dallas and LA? This two years, Dallas and LA would've ended up with the same record. Rodman's just easy to blame. He doesn't disrupt chemistry. This team is not based around him. This is not the Jazz where he has to learn three trillion things and then execute them to the fullest forever. No, I'm sure a title this year is pretty much outta the year. If we were an experienced underrated team, maybe, but we're a young underrated team. Frankly, I think you just wanna bash him cause he's very bash-able. Any complaints you have, any single thing goes wrong, and we simply snip him off the roster. Personally, I think if u name all the Rockets' weaknesses this year, those are Rodman's qualities. Yes, he's not that young, but we're not looking for much. Just 20 minutes of hard work.
Sane: Are you sure that you are not insane ?? You say that Rodman does not disrupt chemistry. Didn't the Mavericks have a losing record with Rodman on the team?? If Mark Cuban can't deal with him, what makes you or anybody else think the Rockets can?? The guy is just on Prozac, Zoloft, Valium, Ridilin, etc., so, I can see how easy it would be for Rudy T to handle this freakazoid.
Unbelievable. You guys are still considering this a possibility. Let's get something straight here: Rodman will NEVER sign with the Rockets, because CD isn't stupid enough to sign him. The guy wears friggen dresses to games. He kicks camera men and fans when they get in the way. He doesn't fumble over them and say "S'cuse me" like everyone else does - he kicks them, or plows over them and hits them on the way! I don't mind anone partying their a*s off off of the court. I don't even care what kind of drugs they do. But when they become uncontrollable on the court that's when I say "See ya". Where is Mad Max? Where is Two Sandwiches? Gone. If Rodman becomes a Rocket, I'm gonna check downstairs for ice.
Rodman has been a curse on most of the team's he's been on. Phil was barely able to manage him for a year with that great team. He can rebound and play defense, but he hasn't played in a while and no one wants him...not even Cuban. Leave this one alone.
timm, you're cracking me up. I could just as easily say the Lakers got rid of Rodman, they won. Mavs got rid of Rodman, they won. They both were winners and improving without Dennis. Rodman was a joke here in Dallas. It was a mistake; one that didn't last long. Why does everyone think that Houston is so different? We'd be victim to the same problems every other team that decided to obtain his game was cursed with. Here's a point to ponder for all of you saying "but, but, but... he can rebound!". Guess what? He averaged something like 11 rebs in 29 minutes playing for the Lakers. He averaged 14 rebs for the Mavs in 32 mins/game as well. He didn't even last a month with the Mavs! Cuban's comments upon getting him were something like "Dennis can do whatever he wants. There won't be any curfews for him". He got free reign in Dallas, was allowed to stay in Cuban's mansion, and could party and still got booted off the team for being a negative influence. Rebounds my ass. This team doesn't need to get humiliated by Dennis Rodman. So all you Rodman supporters that want to find a good reason to get him that outweigh the bad, bring it... I haven't heard a worthwhile reason yet. Probably because there isn't one....
I would like to say that Rodman is not someone I would consider because he is, um too old, yes too old to begin the rigors of the training and he will likely be finished before he started...
