Don't worry about the article, remember Nash's preferance was to stay with the Mavericks too.

Battie woudl be an awesome pickup but the TE is going to Seattle for Barry.

It won't be Brent Barry and Battie. It will be Brent Barry or Battie.

Personally I would do the Battie and Fisher/

Brent Barry's thought bubble: "Hmm should I earn an average of 6 million dollars a year playing on a team with T-Mac and Yao Ming?"

this is probably barry's last contract. he will want to squeeze for as much cash as he can, nothing wrong with that i might add.

imo, whoever ends up picking his tab, he's going to be a bad contract waiting to happen for them.

I wonder what player the Rockets would offer, as part of a sign and trade. YM and TM are untouchable, and the Sonics aren't stupid enough to take MT.

The only player I can think of would be Juwan Howard.

I hope You're not Serious. Race should have no say in Any Descision the Rockets make. The Days of RACISIM went out the Window with the likes of KKK and other numbskulls.

Rockets need a playmaker and a player able to matchup defensively with quick PG's around the league.

Brent Barry does not match these needs, Carlos Arroyo on the other hand does.

I disagree. BB is a very nice fit and WITHIN the Rockets system goes against your argument. Your argument would be much more valid on a number of other teams.

BB is 6'6 which allows him to defend vs. stand up jumpers, he is weak vs. drives toward the basket - which can be defensed within JVG's scheme. He also is a proven top notch shooter so you can't exactly leave him alone on offense.

He does have rebounding and is above average in steals.

methinks laen21 is not long for this board if Clutch sees that post.

    ontopic....

I am still very uneasy about Barrry's defensive skills...I cant deny the alure of such a great shooter, but comeone...someone convince me that Barry can indeed play defense so I can feel better about this potential move.

I dont have a problem with the potential contract if he retains his shooting touch and improves his defense...by the time his last couple of years roll around, we will probably have found(or developed) a more suitable young replacement point.

    now....on a personal note to laen21....

that kind of crap may be welcomed at lesser boards....but that aint the way we do things here.
My advice to you is to issue a public apology for taking away valuable minutes of our bbs life actually reading that slop you posted.
MemphisX may sound cocky sometimes when he posts, but for the entire time he has been a member, he has been a decent poster, and doesnt deserve to have some little immature blivet post the kind of crap you did.

you better hope the admins are in a forgiving mood....

Jeff's post from a few pages back made me feel a little bit better

His one weakness is defense but not because of his ability. He has lacked a system that schemed like the Rockets do. There isn't a team in the league save Detroit that schemes opposing teams like the Rockets because of Van Gundy. As a result, Barry could look like an above average defender just through the scheme of the defense and the play of his teammates.

I am not really familure with Barry's game, but the optimist in me believes that an enthusiastic and smart player can play good team defense if that team defense is well defined and well run.

I'm pretty sure JVG knows what the heck he wants, and if BB is the fit, you KNOW he's coming here. He'd be ntuz to pass up this opportunity. And this chatter about, "in four years he'll be old and and it will take a couple years for a serious run",.....please, tell that to the world champions..and ah, as I remeber, a guy rolled in here mid season and helped Hakeem take us to the 2nd championship also...or was it he glided in here? 3 - 4 years in the NBA? That's an eternity. Les is all about winnning NOW !!! Go Rockets....: )

To all these Arroyo fans, have you ever really watched this guy play?? This guy shoots barely over 30% from the 3 point line and probably won't keep his starting job over Raul Lopez this year if he stays with the Jazz. What you guys see (or don't see) in him is a big question mark to me.

B.Barry on the other hand may not be the athlete he once was, but he's a legitimate B.Ball player. Everyone who cried about the bball IQ of Francis and Mobley will LOVE THIS GUY. Not only that but with him and his shooting ability can you imagine the opposition being afraid to double team Yao or TMac because of the outside shooting ability of Barry and JJ. Plus the ability of MoT and Howard to hit the open 10-15 footer. Who you going to leave open??

Plus if they get Barry with the TE, you still have the MLE or visa-versa to get someone else. You'll still have enough with it and the vetearans exception to pick up 2 blue collar guys. That we would end up with TMac and Barry for Cat and Steve is almost too good to be true.

Also has JVG become the anti-Riley. Riley goes from coaching Showtime to the Knicks/Heat slow it to a crawl teams. While JVG has gone from the Knicks to now building a Showtime offensive juggernaut. Who would have thought.....

You could look at it this way, Francis played zero defense & yet, we were the best defensive team in the NBA. The fact that Barry is 3" taller has got to improve the defense in some small way. The majority of PG's in the league are 6'0" to 6'4" tall. Barry's height alone, will prevent most PG's from shooting over him & force them to change position. Thus, disrupting their game.
