Well, that was an embarassment of monumental proportions. Eddie looked okay, but the Rockets lost to a team heavily featuring Scott Padget. Pitiful.

Langhi responded to my post with a clutch spin and jumper.

    Game just ended...

    Jazz 82
    Rocks 75

Jazz Russian looked good and blocked Grif's 3 and then free birded for a dunk to end game.

Overall, I feel much better about Grif. His offense looks sound for a 19 year-old playing with men, some with 3 years NBA experience. Hell, the Russian has 5-6 years in pro ball...European.

Langhi looks good, much better handles than I saw last year. He is a pure shooter and has a great release.

Grif and Dan will make us better this year...maybe 4-5 more wins...depends on what FAs we sign, but there is hope!

Griffin's "D" was horrible. The guy just simply quits on plays. I know this is the summer league, but with what I saw him do tonight against Utah, the guy can be flat lazy at times. Sure he can block shots, but that is only one aspect of defense. Griffin's focus just comes and goes. Gave up a rebound late off a missed free throw, then stares off into space as the Russian hits Griffin's man with a sweet pass for a slam. It was very Cato-esque.

If that wasn't enough, the Russian swats his ball like Hakeem on KJ, then thunder slams at the buzzer. shameful....oh well at least Langhi was playing at 100%

My Kroger card should say "Signature" on it, because that's the grocery store I shop at. I felt slighted, because the store is of a higher quality than the *regular* Kroger. So that's why I penciled in "Signature" on the front and back of my card.

God I hate the Jazz [IMG]
The way the Krilenko guy posed after the dunk at the end sickened me...

    ZRB,

C'mon man, this is eval time...Jazz had some experience and talent--2 guys on court with 3 years in NBA and that Russian kid has got some skills.

Our guys did OK, given the talent we have on the team.

Let's end on a positive note...c'mon Grif looked OK is a start...how about Langhi?

Overall I was very disappointed in our guards' inability to distribute the ball. Bet we had very few assists tonite. And without K9 and Collier we were really overmatched inside. Not too worried about who won. And the telecast was terrible. So were so busy hyping things they forgot about the game.

Griffin oozes talent! He's a natural and will be a great pro. Remember he is only 19 and will mature and get a lot stronger. Langhi is a great shooter and has the ability to create his own shot, a natural 3 who will be soon be better than Bull or Walt. Morris looked lost, maybe because we were so damn disorganized out there. Don't think either guard will cut it; Colson dominates ball and looks to shoot too much.

Glad to finally get a look at the guys. It should be a fun year.

I was impressed with Griffin's defense.

The only times I noticed he was haaving problems was when he was being asked to guard guys who were larger than him. That will not be a problem at SF in the NBA.

    His shot-blocking is also excellent.

You gotta love Langhi. Griffin is OK and will be great.

I like this guy Alex Jensen. He does the dirty work and played a lot of minutes. What's up with that? He ended up slowing down the Russian guy, didn't he?

I also like Omar Sneed. He's a bit out of control but he is hard-nosed hustler. I can see why Darkhorse calls him the Ballhog.

Darren Kelly would be a better fourth guard than Colson.

Unfortunately, Terrance Morris didn't show much. That was big-time disappointing for me. How 'bout you, Fred Terp?!

Maria Ellie... You must saw what i saw... catolike defense...

I caught him being lazy several times.. he clearly had chance to go for block or steal.. but he simply gave up the play many times...

Very sorry guard play. Griffin is clearly talented but need to be alot more responsive. The question is, is he Duncan or Mckey? I am struggling with is emotion. I just hope he is not a Mckey or Marshall (Donyell).

I thought Griffin was very good. Does anybody know what his final stats were? it looked like he had several blocks.

#1 I agree with Tolpatcsh, I think Kelly may turn out to be just as good as Colson if not better. #2 Langhi was great. I hope he can do some of the same things during the regular season in a couple of years. I really like to watch him play. #3 I think Griffin is going to be a nice player, he needs to work on his ball handling and shot selection a bit, but man he is looking good, and hes just 19! #4 That Russian kid for Utah is about 30 pounds shy of being an immidiate impact for the Jazz. He's scrappy isn't he? #5 Is it just me or did you guys see a ton of players for both teams speed dribbling right into traffic with no real idea what they were going to do?? Kind of nerve racking, but I guess many of them are praying to catch someone's eye. It was nice to watch the game.

Defense is about intensity, perseverance, and competitive fire. Eddie Griffin shows none of this. Fast breaks and mammoth swats don't won't win the West. Blocking out and playing team defense will. Griffin needs more Charles Oakley and less Loren Woods in his game.

There is the problem. Just because he doesn't show it, doesn't mean he doesn't have it.

Just because a player doesn't look constipated doesn't mean he doesn't have the fire inside.

I think you are severely misunderstanding Griffin. He is not lazy. When you see him laying back on defense and not reacting to every single twitch or head fake or loose ball it is because he is waiting. Waiting patiently for the offensive player to tip his hand on what his final move is going to be. Waiting for the offensive player to make his last move and reach the point of no return. Then when the offensive player and everyone else is convinced that Eddie is not reacting to the play he strikes! Quick as a cat he leaves his feet for the block! You see Eddie is not lazy he is cerebral. Constantly evaluating the situation and waiting for the perfect opportunity to jump. Never wanting to overreact but always wanting to be in position to react at just the right time. Eddie Griffin is an opportunist he is decisive and deliberate in his actions and he is effective. Eddie Griffin is no Kelvin Cato.
