Why does it matter, they're both looking for the same contract. I guess Asik would have gotten more PT to develop. That would have been the only real advantage.
I don't blame the Rockets for doing this at all. They're actually winning by doing this, because Lee is very inconsistent.
This move strikes me as similar to what happened with Landry Fields. Toronto is planning to sign Fields to an offer sheet to prevent the Knicks from negotiating a sign and trade of Fields to Phoenix as part of a Nash deal. Thus, by signing Fields to the offer sheet, Toronto enhances its chances of getting Nash.
Withdrawing the offer does little harm, I'd like to at least get something out of it rather than seeing him leave directly. Granted, we'll probably earn something indirectly. Lee's average, he's not like some of you guys make him out to be. Lamb, though, he'll be something.
Chicago turned down the Lee for Asik trade last year. You don't trade a 25 year old up and coming Center for a back up role playing undersized 2 guard.
Chicago declined that trade. The Rockets get what they want if Chicago does not match. I know Chicago wants to match really badly right now because you don't mess with a young team that got you the best record in the NBA. If Lee convinces them they have a chance and that he would take less money to play for a contender then they would probably forget about Asik. I hope he gets a payday from Mark Cuban and a starting spot on the Mavericks. That move would be the first step to sending them to mediocrity.
Way too early to say we're winning... Additions: Omar Asik, Jon Leuer, Shaun Livingston, Jeremy Lamb, Royce White, Terrence Jones Subtractions: Marcus Camby, Courtney Lee, Goran Dragic, Chase Budinger, Sam Dalembert (5 rotation guys gone)
The Rockets were a .500 team without two of those players. The squad is just too good right now for a proper tank job.
We're dropping the LeBron of looks...and picking up the Blatche of looks (for 25 mil at that) Time to cancel the HD
Marc J. Spears: Free agent guard Courtney Lee is leaning towards the Clippers and Pacers, sources tell Yahoo! Sports. now
Trading for Lamb cost the Rockets some cap space. I don't think Dalembert was in the Rockets long term plans. The way his contract was structured screams he was another asset signing, 1 year crutch. The Budinger trade also cost the Rockets 400k in cap space.
I'm confused about why the Pacers with the George Hill extension, he could at least start on the Clippers
I am much happier with Martin over Lee. Lee is a bit overrated as a defender. With Lowry (who we are obviously keeping now), Parsons and most likely the Turkish Hammer... our two needs to be able to put the ball in the basket. Martin does that very, very well. Especially when he gets to the line. If losing Lee allows us to retain Dragic or sign Lin... we are better off.
Courtney Lee @CourtneyLee2211 Love to all the fans in Houston, the ppl that work hands on with the team, the staff, coaches, teammates for all the support! Oh can't forGet to S/O red nation red rowdies!!!
