I don't start start threads too often, but the Rockets shooting 3 for 46 from three in the last 3 halves of basketball should warrant a little discussion. I'll start it off. Shooting like this may not be enough to beat the Warriors if the two teams play in the first round of the playoffs.
MAURYBALL Keep jacking them 3's and yet have some of the worst 3 point shooters around - You have Harden thinking he is Curry jacking up 3's - You have Josh Smith brick after brick - Corey bricker
Yeah I do not know why Morey don't sign good shooters...I've got all the streaky shooters in the NBA. Last season's success really messed his mind isn't it?
seriously? "may not be enough"? nobody wants to see the Rockets in the playoffs. Sucky 3pt shooting or not.
Let's just forget about seeing this Rocket team winning the championship altogether this year, let alone go deep in the playoffs. They're a team that lives by the three point shot, and dies by the three point shot. A team in ANY league that is like that is not championship material.
The warriors more quality looks than the rockets. The Rockets shoot contested shots most of the time. The warriors can afford to do so, they have 2 great shot makers. We have chuckers not makers.
It may seem that way to you but that's simply not true. Houston is one of the leaders in open 3 point shots. In fact, our number of open and contested 3's is fairly similar to the Warriors. Houston takes 7.4 contested 3's per game while GS shoots 6.4 contested 3s per games. On the flipside Houston gets 23.8 open 3's per game while GS gets 24.5 open 3s per game. As you can see, we get about 3 times as many open 3's than we do contested 3s. We actually lead the league in open 3 point shot attempts with the defender 4-6 feet away from the shooter. The problem is not getting open looks, we get plenty of those.
True. Problem is that Morey doesn't think it's necessary to get good 3pt shooters. Difference is about 5 points
There can also be other factors that make up a "Quality shot". The spot on the floor plays a factor. The stats don't show if the shooter shot was in rhythm when shooting. Also, the mechanics of the shooter plays a factor. The Rockets 3 point shot volume makes the stats obsolete. They are a representation of how good or bad this team is at shooting. I just see a team spamming the 3. Example, Beverley can shoot open threes as much he wants but he will never be a better open shooter than Klay. The warriors players stick to their strengths, and they all know each others hot spots. Thats why you see Livingston run to the post, His shot percentage in the post is abnormally high for a guard and his teammates are aware of it. They feed him every time he has a mismatch. The Rockets don't communicate with each other. When you can't communicate, you are not a team.
Missing the playoffs is deserved. Need to show these guys some freaking humility and give them a chip... As if they shouldn't already have one from getting their ass handed to em against the warriors last year
