When Scola got that contract he was the starting PF on multiple 50+ win teams. Dmo today, fully healthy, is fighting with Harrell for third string center minutes.

Agree but Scola benefited very much by playing next to Yao. Once Yao left, Scola was horrifically exposed on D. Dmo's best season was next to Tarik Black and Joey Dorsey mostly lol.

Yes, Scola is a far superior player than DMo, but they aren't being paid at the same time. The cap exploded this year and Ryan Anderson is making as much as Chris Paul, who signed his extension three years ago. A lot has changed in that time. Juwan Howard's absolutely insane deal in the 90s would be a bargain in today's NBA, haha.

Dmo needs to get his ass in here and start practicing.

It's over bro you signed the deal the Rockets matched you still making 9m a year this season and most likely will be paid the same next year.

If your agent didn't tell you that if the rockets matched the incentives wouldn't carry over, well bud that's your own fault for hiring BJ as your agent.

This is all on dmo. If he wants to report he will bj can't keep him from walking through that door.

Scola was a) much better and b) signed 2 years before the next CBA dispute, where EVERYONE knew there would be an amnesty out.

So... is there already a written Houston version of the contract where the incentives are not there? Or are they still talking about the signed offer? And Houston only verbally said we're matching, and it comes up to only $31M

Here is why the exposed to RFA issue is moot.

The Rockets and BJ/DMO can sign an agreement that says, we are working on XYZ, and as a condition of that agreement, BJ and DMO agree not to seek any other offers.

You just lock each other into a negotiation position - which has hooks....that if someone breaks it, then the previous agreement applies...

I am in complete agreement with you. The point I was making to others is that Scola got paid because he was 1) a proven good player and 2) durable and healthy. D-Mo has proven neither thus far. If Scola was playing in his prime today, he would be easily making over $15M.

    http://nba.nbcsports.com/2016/12/08/report-rockets-will-leave-donatas-motiejunas-offer-sheet-open/
Is this what he is trying to do wait for summer? According to them:

All he can do is submit to a physical or negotiate a new deal with the Rockets.

Motiejunas could undergo a physical anytime between now and March 1. If he passes, he’d join Houston on the terms of his matched offer sheet. If he fails, he’d go to Brooklyn on the original offer-sheet terms (which are $6 million apart).

Motiejunas could also negotiate a new deal with the Rockets. They have immense leverage with his matched offer sheet in place, but perhaps a compromise could be forged. Motiejunas obviously wants a chance at that $6 million, but he’ll have to concede something in exchange. Maybe that’s a later guarantee date on his 2017-18 salary. If both sides agree to a different contract, Houston would withdraw its match, which would make Motiejunas a restricted free agent. Then, the Rockets could re-sign him.

They sure aren’t letting him out of this limbo just to seek a better offer sheet from another team. A new contract must already be agreed upon.

In the meantime, Motiejunas will continue to count toward the Nets’ team salary while the offer sheet is open, which is a nuisance but not hugely disruptive. They have plenty of cap space anyway, and the odds of adding significant salary in a trade are low.

Houston will continue to play without Motiejunas. That’s also not ideal for the Rockets, but they’ve been fine without him so far.

The qualifying offer will expire on March 2, when Motiejunas will no longer be eligible to sign an offer sheet with another team. He’d still be allowed to re-sign with Houston, though. Failing that, he’ll re-enter free agency next summer, when the Rockets could again make him restricted, and we’ll start the process all over again – with the caveat that the Nets can’t sign him for one year after his offer sheet expires.

Maybe something will break before it gets to that point, but Houston and Motiejunas have trudged deeper into this standoff than ever imaginable.

dmo and his agent are idiots, would rather hold a grudge instead of getting paid by just being on team.

As of today, Dmo is making plans to go back to Vancouver on Saturday. Hopefully things work out and it doesn't get to that point.

I don't believe such a contract is allowed under the CA. There is no way they could lock each other into any sort of binding negotiating agreement. Remember that normal contract law doesn't apply in a CBA situation

Let it get to that point. If he doesn't feel like living up to the contract he signed, I'm good with him retiring to Vancouver. I'm sure he was smart with the money he made and can make it last a while.

I just realized all this for half a season player with a iffy back

Last time it was Royce White, now's D-Mo. We really love drama here with non stars in Houston
