Seems like they tried to work things out with BJ and they got greedy. They are in no position to bargain.
There is a good point mentioned in this article. The incentives mentioned in the Nets contract that the Rockets does not need to match and should not agree to match. A simple example will be : if the Nets agree to pay Dmo one extra million if the team will win 50 games, of course the Net doesn't care because this can never happen with the Nets this season, but with the Rockets? this clause is totally different and will have a much higher chance for it to happen and of course there is no desire for the Rockets to match it.[/spoiler]
It first got my attention when Watkins said on Locked on Rockets podcast like a week prior to training camp, that BJ did not know when Rockets training camp was starting. Since then I am not surprised at anything BJ Armstrong doesn't know. EDIT: that just adds to the pile of evidence that BJ Armstrong doesn't give a single **** about DMo's well being, he just wants to squeeze the most money, doesn't matter weather DMo misses half a season, entire season. As long he show's he's a strong agent that will have his way, no matter how dumb. And it sucks that people hate on DMo for trusting such agent. After all, DMo didn't go to college, he might not be the smartest guy out there. Not saying DMo is dumb, I'm just saying he might be.
One day Brown Lost It hopes he can have the pockets to match an ego so big to where he too can turn down $31 million.
they also say, "if you're scared of cows, don't go into the pasture." or something like that. Actually, I think it's "if I don't see you in the future, I'll see you in the pasture." yeah, that's it. Lithuanians are smart that way.
He didn't know that Joe Lacob was on the Competition Committee before throwing them under the bus for changing the rules about kicking either lmao
Right? Let's do a little experiment.... Everyone here has their current financial situation, whatever it may be. Now, here's an offer I'm making --- you can make $31M, or walk away. Now, consider that I have $6M more laying on the table, but it's off-limits. That's mine. Also, you've seen other people walking out with $40M and $50M. Will you take the $31M? Or walk away? Your choice. [Human irrationality / loss aversion is stringing up Armstrong here]
This is the confidential recording record I just received. Below is the conversation between Dmo and his agent BJ. DMo : BJ, what are we going to do and what offer we have now? BJ : The Nets is willing to offer you a contract. Dmo : Great, lets do it, I don't care if that's the Nets or the 76ers, I just want to play. How much they offer per year? 15 mils like Holic said? for 4 years 60 mils? BJ : No Dmo, they only want to offer a partially guaranteed contract, no where close to the number we asked, but think about it, it is still better than a 10 days contract, right? Dmo : WTF!!! I am screwed now? Should I go back and beg Les and Morey now? BJ : Relax my man, you know why I am here? because that's an agent will do for you, we can ask the Net to construct a poison pill contract for the Rox to match. Dmo : how? BJ : I asked the Nets to put an incentives on the contract that if the Nets will win 40 games this year, you will get another 6 mils. Dmo : Are you a forking dumbass?! How can the sorry Nets will win 40 games this year? They will be lucky to win 25 games! BJ : Relax my man, I put this clause so that we can force the Rockets not to match as you will be set free and you can have a chance to get some numbers in the Nets. Dmo : Oh really? BJ : Of course, think about it. If the Rockets will match this offer, do you think they are not going to win 40 games this year and you are guaranteed to get 6 mils bonus free, hahahahahaha.... Dmo : You are a forking genius!!! Lets do it!!!
Not sure what the experiment proves. I personally will take the $31M because I might never have the opportunity to earn that. Dmo on the other hand has had offers from 3 diff teams that are willing to give him that money. Comparing what non millionaires will do with somebody who is, might not be a good analogy.
As I said, the Rockets don't want that March 1st year 2 guarantee - DMo wants more of the bonus money matched - seems they can both work something out here. I suspect this will be over soon. And yes, BJ blew it. DD
