i hope yao leaves just so he can take all the YOFs with him. we are clearly a top team even without him, and we've always won without him in the lineup. that said, yao is going to stay in houston till the day he retires, which is detrimental to us winning a championship.
He is basically saying the same thing as you. We are assuming we will get a superstar for Yao, so the jersey sales itself would generate significant revenues for the team (Yao's jersey sales are dismal even in China) and offset the endorsement deals from China. As for the shoe deals, yes it helps to get some players to the team but at the end of the day, you cannot base your long term business strategy on that. And lets be clear, both of you, if we can let Hakeem walk, Yao is nobody compared to the dream. Having said that, I want Yao to come back and if not I will follow his games whichever team he ends up with.
There is no other team in the league that could offer Yao a max contract AND give him a better shot at winning a title than the Rockets. ... That said, I still don't know about offering Yao the max. But laff @ Yao being injured because he played the second half. I'm pretty sure that playing on a sprained ankle isn't going to cause a hairline fracture.
One thing that there will always be a lot of ignorance about is jersey/memorabilia sales. For all that stuff (jerseys, bobbleheads, etc), all the revenue is SPLIT UP EVENLY between all the teams in the NBA.
The thing is, Yao's best chance is in Houston. Anywhere else, they would have to rebuild their offense and defense around him. Except maybe OKC but that is because there is like nothing their and Durant is exceptional but really, Houston is already player made for Yao, the team is constantly working around trying to get him involved or survive without him. Besides, more or less Yao is at home here, so I doubt he'd want to move else where, unless he was going back home to China. I mean the man has to have a house built specifically for his height, it is not like he can just pack up move and have that done within a few months anywhere in the country.
I wouldn't even say that to a total stranger, hardly can I imagine to say such things to a player on the end of the bench of the team I support, not to mention an important player on that team. But that's just me.
Dude ur weak with that stupid post. The guy was just merely making a mathematical observation, he did not insult Yao in anyway. Yao have been having major injuries the last 3 seasons, FACT! Yao Have not played a full season since his first 2-3 years in the league, FACT. Yao just now make it past the 2nd round after 7 years, FACT. So the math is, like the poster stated, Yao is more likely to get injure than to win a championship. Now, back to subject. I keep asking YOFs this question whenever they make a thread like this: what on earth make you think it is in Yao's best interest to leave this team? I guarantee you this, friends, that Yao's career will do down hill if and when he leave the rockets. He is the man here and he we wont be the man to a new team because of the new system, new superstars or stars on that team, and new fan base. Stop this idiot thinking that Yao want to leave houston please!
About 1.2billion Chinese are watching Yao to see whether this guy can win a champion in NBA. Yao works very hard to prove himself. maybe works too hard. If he can see the hope to get the champion in Houston. He definitely will stay. All I wish is the Boss and manager would find him good enough teammates.
Yao is in the same boat as McGrady is with the Rockets. Why would they pay guys huge amount of money if they have a history of always being injured at some point. If Yao stays he stays if he goes he goes. I believe this is a useless thread and shouldn't have been made. The season is still going for us. There are more important things the Rockets and fans need to worry about.
Insulting is all you can do, why am I not surprised you supported that post? Lots of insults are so-called facts. If you tell your family member that they can't even tie Warren Buffet's shoe laces, in terms of investing. That's obviously "fact", but certainly not flattering. If you tell your date that she couldn't even tie Angelina Jolie's shoe laces, in terms of beauty. If she' s upset with that, I guess you will be even more upset "what's up with this weak stupid reaction, I was stating facts!" English is not my mother tongue, but you sir, seriously need some communication lessons. BTW, ANY NBA player is closer to an injury than to a championship, mathematically. That's a fact, too.
Will Yao get a max deal for his off the court ability? Yes. Should he get one for his on the court ability? Nope.
Yao is too loyal to move on. He seems to be the type that sticks to his team as long as he is wanted or needed.
This is not up to Yao. He plays highest minutes in the playoff games for the team. The coach needs to make sure he plays within 33 minutes
The coaches put the players on the court who give you the best chance to win in the playoffs. We should have had a back-up center from some time now so during the season The rockets wouldn't have to have Yao go through so much. They should already know that Yao breaks down easy.
Yao ain't going nowhere. Come 2010, you'll pray he stays. Otherwise, he walks for nothing. Superstars go where Yao Ming is. If Yao and LeBron end up on the same team, it's game over for the entire league. Same goes for a D.Wade and Yao Ming combo. Or what if Yao Ming goes to the Lakers? Yikes. A Houston with no Yao Ming? Why would any other superstar be enticed to go to Houston when so many teams can offer them the same contract? The best incentive would be a dominant big man who's one of the best in the league, if not THE best. Daryl Morey would never trade him. That's why he's running the franchise and not the knee-jerk idiots on ClutchF.
